Tears of eyes or blood of hearts

Upon a distant camel, its visit near

The announcer announced it to us, so he startled us

Like a frightening voice in the darkness

We said, son of mercy, our minds have flown

We did not listen to you but lament

And how much certainty in life is disturbing

By the struggle of nights and reconciliation of calamities

Of the stab of fate over wounds

Upon Ibn Sura, protector of sleeves and robes

It wipes a tear so it would give the likes of it

And forgets a loss by remembering a loss

So O announcer if you said, be comforted

The one who misses in his words is not like the one who hits

Your tenderness, say what you wish except grief

For the loss of a generous one or the separation of a loved one

He said “He passed away”, we said “Without penalty”

And every spring will run dry

With an insightful eye, eloquent and intelligent?

With a resolve like the cutting edge of polished swords?

You, O Abdulaziz, when it grew dark

    I who suffered life wandering

Roaming all lands like a doomed shadow

And folding behind people a wounded soul

And the sufferings of a heart aged with sorrows

I complain of the vulgar’s oppression and gluttony

And complain of the fine young man's touch of misfortune

For something that made the surroundings of Mecca desolate

Barren, while the rest of the land is not barren

The days are killing us and they are our lives

And give while I have seen no other but robbery

So what can I do if my trouble is thirst

It is as if the ropes of the sun are the sling of a warrior

Surrounding us from north and south

We walk with them while death is a thirsty desirer

Watching us in coming and going

On the red horizon from its ravages

Remnants of blood of the departed, drizzle

Is time anything but a night whose darkness is prolonged

Breathing from a day of scorching heat?

And the earth's soil is nothing but ruins

And minds that were crushed and hearts

Ask the beautiful gardens in custody of the earth

They were lanterns for eyes but became

O you who saw Abdulaziz snatched

Lying in the hands of mourners as if he is

An angry thunderbolt or sprinkling ashes

Oh what a loss for the spacious chest that has become

Crowded with pains, no longer spacious!

In its home of dreams creeps an illness

That is like gravel’s soft rustling - the worst of insects

You see the heart necessarily touched by it

It afflicted a system of glories so it destroyed

The purpose of hopes and glory of nations

You used to raise my poems in life

And would marvel hearing my composition

So here is a call if it finds a hearer from you

An elegy that the deceased almost comes alive by its words

And holds back the sun of the horizon from setting

So surpass with it Al-Khansa’s if you can, her abode

And compete with it, if you wish, the poetry of a loved one

I wished that I would send my poetry with weeping

    Without rhymes or without forms

And make my lamentations the feet of its meter

When a grievous one roars with strong winds

The rhymes are afraid to touch majesty

Of one with a sublime character, revered

Upon you is God’s peace - no bird lamented

Upon a branch, fresh and plentiful
