رأي عاذلي مَنْ هِمتُ فيه صَبابةً

ولَمْ يَبقَ لي فيهِ اصطبارٌ ولا جَلَدْ

ولَمْ يَبقَ لي فيهِ اصطبارٌ ولا جَلَدْ

My reproacher saw the one with whom I was infatuated—the object of my ardent longing;

For him, I had no patience or fortitude left.

فقال أهذا الشادن الأَحور الّذي

فقال أهذا الشادن الأَحور الّذي

رماكَ بطرفٍ منه قلت نَعَمْ وقَدْ

رماكَ بطرفٍ منه قلت نَعَمْ وقَدْ

He said, “Is this the dark-eyed young gazelle who

Struck you with a glance of his?” I said, “Yes—by his graceful form!”
