    Is this Hazwa or Zarud?

Is that pleasant life to return?

Can lovers' oaths in it be fulfilled?

    And covenants to us remembered?

    Can bygone nights return again?

And to me, after estrangement, intimacy?

Will the blossoms of joy from my beloveds

Come to me while youth's branches sag?

Can I attain what I yearn for in love

Despite hindrance, all I desire and want?

And their clansmen, the loud thunder's stillness stilled.

Towering, or fearful wastelands, lie between us.

They openly broke their pact with me, while their pledge

Remains, however distant, firm to me.

While her heart is firm and strong.

Though my passion has no further extent.

She promises me a secret union―but how often

Her procrastinating promises come to nothing!
