أما الوشاةُ فأنتَ أعلمُ مِنهمُ

أما الوشاةُ فأنتَ أعلمُ مِنهمُ

بجميعِ ما أبديهِ أَوْ أخْفِيهِ

بجميعِ ما أبديهِ أَوْ أخْفِيهِ

As for the tale-bearers, you know better than they do

all that I reveal or conceal.

وكذا العواذلُ قد سَدَدْتُ مَسَامعي

وكذا العواذلُ قد سَدَدْتُ مَسَامعي

عَن عَذْلِهِمْ ما عِشتُ لَسْتُ أعيهِ

عَن عَذْلِهِمْ ما عِشتُ لَسْتُ أعيهِ

And likewise the reproachers—I have stopped my ears

against their reproach; as long as I live, I shall not heed it.

صِنْفان أمرُهما يسيرٌ هَيّنٌ

صِنْفان أمرُهما يسيرٌ هَيّنٌ

أمّا الرقيبُ فحار أمري فيهِ

أمّا الرقيبُ فحار أمري فيهِ

Two sorts—the matter of both is easy and simple;

but as for the watcher, I am at a loss what to do about him.
