He kisses the earth in homage and reverence—
a lovesick man who has borne from your abandonment what none could bear.
You denied his condition after acquaintance—
with him! How could you, when you had already discerned his state?
He hides his sorrow, but the tongue of sickness reveals it,
and his tears make him a byword among the people.
Fear God in your treatment of a lovesick man whom you have made waste away with grief,
who never swerved from loving you for a day, nor ever turned away.
He has never ceased lamenting, since your caravan mounts were reined for departure,
the dwellings left desolate, bereft of you, and the ruins.
