Prolong it—for my longing’s reach is longer.
And blame me: I neither hear nor reason.
Love will not depart from my innermost soul,
nor will reproach enter my ears.
Passion had filled the heart before it,
so leave it until the first occupant departs.
And look upon the one with whom I am enamored:
the reproachers before you came to share it with me.
For reproach’s misgiving—whenever there appears
the face of the one I adore—comes to nothing.
You said that love of him has possessed me with madness.
You spoke truly—so counsel a man who can reason.
