فلْيَهنَ هَذَا الزَّمان أَنْ قدْ
أصبح في أهلِه فريدا
Let this era rejoice, for it has
Become unique among its people.
أدركَ غايات كلّ مجدٍ
ورامَ لو أمكنَ المزيدا
It has attained the heights of all glory,
And sought, were it possible, yet more.
للهِ كم قلّد اللّيالي
من دُرّ عليائِه عقودا
How many nights has it adorned
With necklaces of its lofty pearls!
فليسَ ترضَى حُلىً عُلاهُ
غير عمود الصبَّاح جيدا
It is not content with lesser jewels;
None but the pillars of dawn will please it.
وكم لَهُ من شذورِ نظمٍ
تُلِينُ مِن لُطفها الحديد
And how many fragments of verse it has
Whose subtlety softens iron!
مِن كلّ مَصْقولةِ المباني
يشيبُ إِنشادُهَا الوليدا
Out of all polished compositions
Their chanting turns the newborn gray.
