1. برّح الشّوقُ فواصِلْ

    أنْتَ عمّا بيَ غافلْ

    Longing flared up, so visit me

    You are unaware of my state

  2. زُرْ فأيّام المحبّين

    كما قيل قَلائِلْ

    Come, for the days of lovers

    Are few, it's said

  3. قد تركْتَ القلبَ مِنّي

    ذاهباً والعَقْلَ ذَاهِلْ

    You left my heart to depart

    While my mind grew confused

  4. بأبي بدراً بَدَا لي

    في سماءِ الحسْنِ كَامِلْ

    By my father Badr appeared

    Perfect beauty in the sky

  5. كلّما فوَّق سَهْماً

    لم يُصِبْ إلاّ المَقَاتِلْ

    Whenever he fired an arrow

    It struck only the warrior

  6. رِدْفُه لِلْخَصْر منهُ

    ظَالمٌ والقدّ عادِلْ

    His figure slim at the waist

    Upright, though bending

  7. أَقوامٌ ذاكَ أم غُصْنُ نقاً

    في الدَّوحِ مائِلْ

    Are they people or a willow branch

    Inclining in the basin there

  8. وعيونٌ فاتراتٌ

    تِلك أَمْ ورودٌ في غلائِلْ

    Eyes languid and dimmed

    Or are they roses in tresses

  9. قيّدتْني عارضاهُ

    لِهَواهُ بِسَلاِسِلْ

    Her glances bound me

    To passionate love with chains

  10. قالَ لي لما رآني

    مِن هَواهُ في حبائلْ

    When she saw me trapped

    In the snare of her love

  11. حاجبي المقرون نُونٌ

    وعذاري سَالَ سائلْ

    My conjoined eyebrows are noon

    My loose tresses flowing water

  12. قد مَضى العمرُ وولّى

    ولم أفز مِنهُ بطَائِلْ

    Life passed me by and turned away

    And I gained nothing from it

  13. لَسْتُ أصغي في هواهُ

    لوشاةٍ أو عواذِلْ

    I don't listen in her love

    To slanderers or chiders

  14. إن دينَ الحُب حَقٌ

    وسلوّي عنه باطِلْ

    The creed of love is truth

    While to shun it is vain

  15. فدعِ العاذلَ فيهِ

    فلْيقُلْ ما هو قائلْ

    So leave the chider to say

    What he will say

  16. هُو لا شكَ لِما بي

    من جوىً في القلب جَاهِلْ

    He is doubtless ignorant

    Of the ardour within my heart

  17. أنكرَ العَاذِلُ وجْدي

    وعلى الوجْدِ دلائِلْ

    The chider denied my fervour

    Yet fervour has proofs

  18. وكَفَى السّقمُ دَليلاً

    ودمٌ في الخدِّ هَأمِلْ

    Lovesickness itself is proof

    As is the blood that throbs hopefully in my cheek
