كم ذا الجفا وإلى متى الهَجْرُ

شبّ الهوى وتعذّر الصَّبرُ

How long this estrangement, when will it end?

Love's fire still burns, patience near spent.

ذَهَبَتْ قوىً قد كنتُ أعرفها

وتجلّدٌ أودى بهِ الدَّهرُ

Strength I once knew is no longer within,

While steadfastness falters, life's burdens prevent.

حتّامَ أحملُ فيكَ من كَلَفي

ما لا يطيقُ لِحَمْلِه الصَّخرُ

More than a rock could endure I now bear,

Though advise may help, my mind will not hear.

ومعنَّفٍ أدّى نصيحتَه

لو لم يكُنْ في مَسمعي وقرُ

Why expect mercy from one who condemns?

When in love, my excuse should serve to defend.

ماذا على العذّال لو عذروا

إذ في الهوى العذريّ لي عُذْرُ

My eyes, your time of generosity is now,

So flow forth, for you both are seas I endow.

عينيَّ هذا وقتُ جودِكما

فتدفّقا فكلاكما بحرُ
