عَجِبتُ مِنَ الفعلاء إذْ حُدِيَتْ بها

إلى حَرْب خيرِ الأَوصياء الطلائح

I'm amazed at the jurists when war against

The best of guardians was declared against them

أَتَتْ نحوه ركضاً يحفّ بِرَحْلِهَا

من القومِ غادٍ في الفعال ورائحُ

They hastened towards him, their mounts surrounding him,

While some people had departed, acting and going away

وَقَدْ أُمِرَتْ أن لا تُفارق بيتَها

فَسَارتْ لأبطال الحروب تكافِحُ

They were ordered not to leave their homes

Yet they went to the heroes of wars, fighting

تُوبّخُها حتى الكَلابُ لِفِعْلِها

وتُنصحُ لو أجدتْ هناك النّصائحُ

Even dogs rebuke them for their deed

And advise, if only they found advice there

فيا عَجَبَا مِمَّنْ يُحسِّنُ فِعْلَهَا

وقد لامَها حتّى الكلابُ النَّوابحُ

So what a wonder from one who praises their deed

When even barking dogs blamed them
