أذكِّر الوعدَ مولاَنَا ومالِكَنا

ولم يكُن ناسياً وعْدي فيذكر

I remind the promise of our Master and Owner

And He was not forgetful of my promise that He may remember

لكِن هززتُ به ماضي الغِرار كما

يُهَزّ لِلْفتكةِ الصَّمصامةُ الذكرُ

But I shook the past of delusion as

The male pheasant is shaken for copulation

والله قد أَمر الطّهر البتولَ بأن

تهزّ بالجذعِ حتّى يسقط الثّمرُ

And Allah ordered the chaste virgin

To shake the trunk until the fruit falls

لَو شاء جلَّ لأَغناهَا وأطعَمَها

مما تشاءُ ولا جذعٌ ولا شجرُ

If the Majestic willed, He would have satisfied her and fed her

From whatever she wants, without a trunk or a tree

وكم شكَونا لَه سبحانه ضَرَراً

ومنه كان امتحاناً ذكَ الضررُ

And how much did we complain to Him, glory be to Him, of harm

And from Him was it a test, the harm was remembered
