1. وَيَومَ مَمَرٍّ حَمَيتُ لَقائِحي

    وَضَنئِيَ عَن جُعفٍ وَمازِنِ

    And one day at Marmar's pass I defended my tribe,

    And disdained Juf and Mazin.

  2. وَأَوَّلَني صَبري وَمُهرٌ قَصَرتُهُ

    عَلى الدَرءِ مِن خَودِ الصَفايا العَواطِنِ

    My patience encouraged me at first, and a sword I shortened

    For parrying the polished Indian blades.

  3. فَخابوا وَما إِن خابَ مِن دَمِ خَيرِهِم

    شِباةُ مِتَلٍّ في يَمينِيَ مارِنِ

    So they failed, and no drop of their best blood was shed

    But my straight sword in my right hand shed it.
