Beyond Layla hindrances impeded our way,

Soldiers and a barren land where foxes stray.

Non-Arabs and Bedouins, a vast expanse of land,

A fortress, abodes - all barring our hand.

An ignorant man estranged her from me,

When advice could not deter his tyranny.

He burdened me with more than I could endure,

The noble, red-cheeked clan of Mudar once pure.

Yet I still hope in them - I'm not in despair,

My people, in them, truly, I fully trust.

Who will tell the children of my tribe anew

That I, without doubt, will avenge what is due?

White swords and spears will bring me joy again

As honour's mantle settles on me then.

May God curse those who with suspicion view

And those whose tongues with vice and mischief spew.
