I woke up and my vain thoughts left me
By the life of your father they were prolonged companions
And I became, seeking no food or meat
My friend, that I would eat
Nor a racing horse, impetuous and swift
With slender legs, when I sought amusement
So I prepared to face misfortunes
With a pure reputation and polished rage
And a sharp tongue like the edge of blades
And a long speared lance that flows easily
And a generous steed from excellent stock
That you hear the sword ringing in it
Like the water of a pool dragged by the winds
Pulling overflowing floods within it
