في زمان الشح .. يصبح للقمر
مثل نور الشمس في الليل العتيم
In the time of scarcity, the moon
Becomes like the sun's light in the darkest night
في زمان الشح .. يصبح للحجر
مثل ما للسيف من قدرٍ عظيم
In the time of scarcity, a rock
Becomes like a sword of great might
في زمان الشح .. يملانا الفخر
لا تحدى الظلم كهلٍ أو فطيم
In the time of scarcity, pride weary us
No defiance of injustice by elderly or youth
في زمان الشح في وقت الدهر
كل مجدٍ فـ ارضنا يولد يتيم
In the time of scarcity, in this age
Every glory in our land is born an orphan
وش نقول اليوم ياطفال القهر
في القصايد ذل والله العظيم
What can we say today, O children of agony
In poems, disgrace, and God the Almighty
ما فقدنا السمع ولاكف البصر
مير بين اضلوعنا قلبٍ سقيم
We have not lost hearing or sight
A sick heart passed between our ribs
أهلنا صرتوا عناوين وصور
انتذكركم مثل وجهٍٍ قديم
Our people have become headlines and pictures
To remember you all like an old face
كن ما به ارض لا نهر وبحر
كيف جرح الأرض يشفي في الصميم
A land without river or sea
How can a wound in the earth heal at its core?
علمونا اليأس من صبر وحذر
علمونا (القدس) ننسى (اورشليم)
They taught us despair with patience and caution
They taught us to forget Jerusalem and remember al-Quds
لا سقينا غيث هتاف المطر
كان خضنا الحرب باطفال وحريم
We were not quenched by the downpour of rain
We tilled war with children and women
