عَشية غادَرتُ الحَليس كَأَنَّه
عَلى النَحرِ مِنهُ لون بُردٍ مَحبَّرِ
In the evening I left my companion as though
On his neck was the color of embroidered silk
جَمَعتُ له كَفّي بِلَدنٍ يَزينُهُ
سِنانٌ كَمِصباحِ الدُجى المتسعَرِ
I gathered in my palms a spear that adorns him
With teeth like lamps illuminating the darkness
فَلَم أَرقِهِ إِن يَنجُ منها وَإِن يَمُت
فَطعنة لا غَسٍّ وَلا بمغمَّرِ
Whether he survives it or dies, I do not care
A clean stab, no poison, and no dagger
