1. ‏ ؟

Is there still left to us of you a letter and a tanwīn?

Or have you been lost to us, as Palestine was lost?

  2. ‏ ،

    ‏

A generation was marginalized; its identity did not simply vanish—

rather, it was made to vanish when honor and faith were lost.

  3. ‏

    ‏ !

Of all our former glories, not a single one remains.

O Lord, are we human beings—or devils?

  4. ‏

    ‏

Forgive us, then, if our culture has gone awry,

and bring us back when labels have split us apart.

  5. ‏

    ‏ ،

The powers have torn at us from every side,

and the hues have been hemmed within drawings.

  6. ‏

    ‏

    Ḍād is wounded—how often you have consoled our exile;

in us is coldness, while in you are tenderness and gentleness.

  7. ‏

    ‏

Stretch out your hands; return us to our vessels,

for the night is raging, and the sea’s waves are mad.
