1. Nothing guarantees that you will live happily.

    So be content: you are not alone in this hell.

  2. What has passed is dead, as they say; and should it return,

    you will wish you had been kept far from it.

  3. So accept what is written, though you hate it,

    and make your sorrow a witness to your contentment.

  4. It is enough that you are a Muslim on a planet

    where even hopes have become Jews.

  5. Strive to survive, but do not expect

    praise from those who desire your downfall.

  6. As for glory, forget it if you remain bound to

    a country that wants you to live dull-witted.

  7. ،

    Be like Abraham, neither fawning upon

    unbelief nor standing in awe of Nimrod.

  8. In mortal clay you may be unable to endure;

    cast it off, then, and put on iron to survive.

  9. Calamities flow freely through your waters;

    let them go to meet their appointed day.

  10. Whether above the earth or beneath it, people are

    nothing but states of waiting dressed in chains.

  11. Love of life is a crime in itself

    unless it is itself kept within bounds.

  12. ،

    By God, even if souls remained in eternal happiness,

    they would never cease sighing.

  13. The events of this year testify that it

    was nothing but a prelude to guidance.

  14. ،

    Little by little, it will become naked—

    this existence—and may become an outcast.

  15. Leaves tumble down; visions grow clear,

    and the earth exposes its worshipped slave.

  16. Perhaps what is coming is like Hell—

    from every tyrant who never tires of more.

  17. ؟

    What ails the world, that it grows ever crueler

    while its worshippers glorify it all the more?

  18. I have encountered two thousand copies of Harun;

    not one, O Lord, was Rashid—rightly guided.

  19. In a single year we age another thousand years,

    yet still we hope for descendants and immortality.

  20. ،

    We fear the graves, though our deliverance may

    lie beside the road filled with graves.

  21. O seeker, searching every intuition for guidance

    that grants a heart made new for life:

  22. !

    adversities grow harsh upon you so that you cease

    loving illusions—not so that you love them more!

  23. ،

    Between giving and withholding there lies a wisdom;

    were it revealed, it would not achieve its purpose.

  24. Man’s only affliction is that

    he spends what he has to possess what he lacks.
