أجل زُلزلت فيكِ زلزالَها

"وأخرجتِ الأرضُ أثقالَها"

Yes—within you the earth was shaken with her quake,

“And the earth brought forth her burdens.”

وقال الصديقُ: عليها السلامُ

وقال المُخذّلُ: يا ويلَها!

And the faithful friend said: Peace be upon her.

And the defeatist said: Woe to her!

فلو أنّ غيرَ الشآمِ، لأفنى

بها باعثُ الموتِ أنسالها

Had she been anything but al-Sham, he would have annihilated—

within her, the bringer of death—all her progeny.

ولكنّها منذُ بدء الوجودِ

تُقدّمُ للهِ أبطالَها

But she—since the beginning of existence—has

offered her heroes to God.
