  1. And a knotty matter, among all matters pitch-dark,

    of obscure aspect, dark and veiled—

  2. you have readily mastered whatever in it proved hard,

    with a tongue adorned by eloquent artistry,

  3. like the brocade of robes, made delicate by the weav—

    —ing; and in disputation, pearls scattered wide.

  4. Beautiful are silence and measured pauses while

    the company speaks and conversation circles round;

  5. then, after a moment, eas—

    —e and a refined, abundant honor come to possess him.
