O this stillness, O ruler of death

And crafter of eternity and perpetuity,

You ruled over death before life,

And here you are, ruling over death.

O nothingness, where has my beloved gone?

O nothingness, where have you hidden my life?

Where is the abode of light that I see?

Where is the abode of song and voices?

O nothingness, where do you slumber in silence

And find rest for your eyelids?

Stop, and let me confide my sorrows to you,

    Murmuring dazedly into your ear.

I found in life no ear to hear my complaints

    Or a tender heart,

And so I have come to complain to you of my condition,

For you take pity on the sad and woeful.

I had in life an exultant heart

That would sing like a jubilant bird.

Sorrow has scorched its wing feathers,

And it plummeted like a wounded bird.

It endured its pain and scattered beams

Across that sky before the heart faded

And passed away, carrying with it into extinction

    Distraction and chaos.
