The dawn caller cries that dawn has indeed called out

And the dawn reveals its splendors unveiled

The sun sends its greetings to the world

Seeking the treetops as a lookout

The shepherds here sing to the cheerful dawn

And the field spreads in the morning some new plants

Arise, fill the dawn with a joyful sound from you

O charmer of the dawn, for the dawn has risen

I have roamed all over Egypt a stranger

From Damietta's bay to Aswan's slopes

Hoping I may see a resemblance depicting you in grace

Or lightness or beauty of yours enchanting

Never have I seen but you, my heifer, ever

A beauty roaming our fair village enticing us

From what spring of beauty is your inspiration drawn

Are your eyes some Harut's sorcery in our valley

O magic of your steps when you walk following

Your mother in the morn toward the field delighted

The village girl recites her songs about you

And crosses the green canals delighted

When I hear your bell the countryside comes rushing

Before my eyes then meets me and greets me

I see the fields and I graze the countryside of folks

Sun and shade and trees and their waters

More deserving is clover blossom to be your fodder

And to be your grazing on fragrant basil

I call you my heifer, not as my companion

But as my charmer, O beauty of vision

On your milk the countryside fed its youth

Who then excelled as heroes and champions

Every go-getter seeking glory with pride

His harvest won him glory and fame

If I had a sublime pen for fine art

That quivers with inspiration in scenes' sphere

I'd depict you forever in lush green meadows

Dew-sprinkled, in the shade of eucalyptus trees

Or over the Giza plateau lying stretched out

Or in Elysian fields in Isis' paradise

    Grazing, wandering, walking half-asleep

Breakfasting drowsy next to Apis' side
