يا ربُّ إنْ جنَّ الظلامُ تواثبتْ

أشباحُ عاقبة الضلالِ ترومُني

O Lord, if darkness falls, pouncing,

The ghosts of waywardness conspire against me,

تسطو تروِّضني وتطفئ غُلَّتي

وتصُبُّ في أذُني العتابَ تلومُني

Overpowering me, subduing me, extinguishing my fervor,

And pouring blame and rebuke into my ears,

لكنَّ نفسي لم تزلْ أمَّارةً

بالسوء تعتنقُ المجونَ تُضيمُني

Yet my soul continues to incite me

To embrace indecency and do me wrong.

إن لمْ تصُنْها من حبائل شرِّها

ستظلُّ تسقيني الأسى وتسومُني

If You do not protect it from its wicked snares,

It will keep feeding me sorrow and poisoning me.
