وقَفَتْ أمامي وقفةَ الرئبال
وتطَلَّعَتْ عن يَمْنةٍ وشمالِ
She stood before me like a doe
And looked right and left
وتساءلت والشكُّ ينْحَرُ قلْبًها
مالي أراكَ غَدَوْتَ عُودَ خِلالِ؟
And wondered, as doubt tore at her heart
Why do I see you've become so thin?
تمْضي بكَ الساعاتُ مُثقلةَ الخُطا
ما بين آهاتٍ عَلَتْ وسُعالِ
The hours pass you by, heavily laden
Between sighs and coughing fits
ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ إنْ شَغُفْتَ بِغَيْرِنا
وأردْتَ تعْذيبي وقَتْلَ عيالي
May your mother lose you if you fall for another
And wish to torture me and kill my children
