قالتْ رايتُكَ تستجدي يدَ الكَسل
تنامُ مُلْتحِفاً بالهَمِّ والوَجَل
She said, "I saw you begging the hand of laziness,
Sleeping wrapped in worries and unrest.
إنْ راودَتكَ المُنى يوماً لتَصْحَبها
جَرَّعْتَها غُصَصَ التسويفِ والمَلَلِ
If dreams called on you one day to accompany them,
You would make them drink the bitterness of procrastination and boredom.
فقلتُ تِلْكَ دعاياتٌ مُلَفَّقةٌ
أنتِ التي شوَّهَتْ من سيرتي مُثُلى
So I said, 'Those are fabricated allegations,
You who have distorted the ideal image of me.'
تَرَكْتِها ونيوبُ الكَيْدَ تنْهشُها
صريعةَ البَسَماتِ الصُّفْرِ والحِيَلِ
You left it while the fangs of malice tore it apart,
A victim of jaundiced smiles and cunning."
