عيثي كما شئتِ لا تأسَيْ على أحَدٍ

واستكتبي شاعرَ الحَمْقى أبا لَهَبِ

أعْطيتِ مالَ يتيم لا وَصيَّ لهُ

أنْفَقْتِهِ في نوادي الخَمْرِ واللَّعِبِ

You gave an orphan's money, he has no guardian,

You spent it in taverns of wine and gambling.

لا تسألي عن شهاداتي ومنْ أبتي؟

وما تعلَّمْتُ عن أمي وما نَسَبي؟

Do not ask about my testimonies or who my father is,

Or what I learned from my mother or my ancestry.

أنا ابنُ حُرِّ يحاذي الشَّمسَ مَنْكِبُهُ

أنا ابنُ أنثى تُسَمَّى أمَّةَ العَرَبِ
