O Eid, what good are the people's clothes

When civilization's gain reeks of filial impiety?

One sells his conscience for coins, a fool,

While another is miserly despite wealth's endowment.

O Eid, you've returned but our dreams remain

    Sick, and peace's legacy sacrificed.

Of our yesterdays naught remains in our eyes

    Save pus or spilled blood.
