1. الشعر خير نتائج الأفكار

    لاسيّما في المدح والتذكار

    Poetry is the best outcome of ideas

    Especially in praise and commemoration

  2. إن قلت هل حلو فحلو الطعام أو

    مر فمرّ شيب لهب النار

    If I say is it sweet, then sweet is the food, or

    Bitter, then bitter is the flame of fire

  3. شبب به إن كنت من أهل الهوى

    إن الهوى لمرونق الأشعار

    Passion with it if you are from the people of love

    For passion is the adornment of poems

  4. أو قلت هل خافي الغرام وشوقه

    أو ظاهر البلوى فكالاحجار

    Or I said, is the love hidden and its longing

    Or the affliction apparent, then like stones

  5. أو كالزناد حديدة إن رمتها

    وإذا قدحت فكالشهاب الواري

    Or like flint, if you throw it

    And if you strike it, then like a flaming meteor

  6. كالثلج بردا والزلال عذابه

    عذب ويرمي لفحه بشرار

    Like ice in its coldness and its torment pleasant

    Sweet but its flames throw sparks

  7. لاهو مختصّ بوقت لا ولا

    بمجزإ الأدواء والأضرار

    It is not specific to a time or a

    Place, nor to the harms and detriments

  8. من لم يمت فيه فليس بعاشق

    والعشق فينا شيمة الأحرار

    Whoever does not die in it is not a lover

    And love in us is the trait of the free

  9. هل نافع آه والصعداء أو

    إهراقنا للمدمع المدرار

    Is sighing beneficial or climbing the hill

    Or our shedding of flowing tears

  10. من أين ذاك لمن يرى النسمات للـ

    أسحار والنغمات للاطيار

    From where is that for one who sees the breeze for

    Secrets and melodies for birds

  11. ويرى التذلل والتدلل والتملـ

    ـمل والتعلّل ساعة الأسحار

    And sees humility, humbleness, cuddling

    And excuse making in the time of secrets

  12. وتمايل الأغضان في كثبانها

    وتورّد الوجنات في الأقمار

    And the bending of branches in their dunes

    And the blushing of cheeks in the moons

  13. وتفلج البرق الشتيت العذب من

    ثغر مليح بارد معطار

    And the scattering of sweet, light rain from

    A beautiful, cool, fragrant mouth

  14. ولياليا كست الصباح دجنّة

    وكسا الصباح ظلامها بنهار

    And nights that clothed the morning, dark

    And the morning clothed their darkness with daylight

  15. وتناشد الأشعار من أريابها

    وتدندن النغمات في المزمار

    And poems solicit their reciters

    And melodies murmur in the flute

  16. قسما ببيض البيض وهي فواتر

    وخدود ورد صوغها بنضار

    By the eggs of eggs, which are the slender waists

    And cheeks of roses adorned with blossoms

  17. المصمتات دمالجا وخلاخلا

    ولكل قلب مفصح وسوار

    The silent ones are places of conversation and anklets

    And for every heart an eloquent companion

  18. السالبات رماحهنّ عقولنا

    فحذار من تلك الرماح حذار

    Those who negate, their spears our minds

    So beware of those spears, beware

  19. لحديث كل الغانيات وما جرى

    من فتكهنّ باسهم الأوتار

    For the words of all the singing girls and what

    Destruction their arrows and strings have wrought

  20. هو الصحيح سوى العيون أو الخضو

    ر فإنه لمضعف الأخبار

    It is true but for the eyes or the reddening

    For it weakens reports

  21. لما رأى شعبان الزوار من

    أني أنا رجب مدى الأطوار

    When Shaban the visitors saw that

    I am Rajab, the cycle of conditions

  22. قالوا به عين فقلت نعم وبي

    ثغر حمته البيض وهي غوار

    They said, by him the eye, so I said yes, and by

    A mouth protected by eggs, and it inspires

  23. قالوا نشوان فقلت لهم أجل

    من سكر خمر رضابها المعطار

    They said intoxicated, so I said to them yes

    Intoxicated by the wine of his fragrant approval

  24. أو ما جعلت العطف لي بذل الجفا

    توكيده بنعوت وصل الدار

    Or have I not shown kindness to me by avoiding estrangement

    And affirming the description of one who reaches home

  25. أمرضتني وأنا الذي لا بد من

    صلة وعائدها عن الزوار

    You made me sick and I am the one who must

    Connect and return from the visitors

  26. وأبيت عن هذين هل أفتي بذا

    نحو النحاة ومن لهم من قار

    And you refused to answer whether I issue

    A judgment to the grammarians and those who have settlements

  27. جولت فكري في العجائب لم أجد

    كعجيبة في سائر الأقطار

    My thoughts roamed the wonders, I did not find

    A wonder in the rest of the lands

  28. ليل على صبح على ريم على

    غصن على حقف من الأوعار

    A night over morning over a white gazelle over

    A branch over an agile doe

  29. في صبحه سينات درختمها

    ميم على مسك ذكي واري

    In her morning, she has the letter ‘seen' shaped moles

    Sealed by a ‘meem’ over musky perfume

  30. وبغصنه رمانتان عليهما

    حيات فرع ضل فيها الساري

    And on its branch, two pomegranates on which

    Snakes, missing the ‘seen’, in which the guide disappeared

  31. عجبا ونون فوق ألحاظ المها

    ذا بالقفار وهذه ببحار

    A wonder! And the letter ‘noon’ above the glances of the does

    But the real wonder is the desire for

  32. بل إنما العجب العجاب تشوّقا

    ألف لذا جمعت بأيدي الباري

    The letter ‘alif’ so the Creator gathered it in His hands

    An ‘alif’ not for connection but a separation

  33. ألف ولا للوصل بل قطعية

    قطعت مكان توصّلي ومزاري

    That cut off my place of connection and sanctuary

    Do not be surprised at what I mentioned for this

  34. لا تعجبوا مما ذكرت فهذه

    أعجوبة كتفتق الأزهار

    Is a wonder like the blooming of flowers

    The light of his hands pours on the clouds having gathered

  35. نور يداه السحب تسكب عسجدا

    جمعت لكل فضيلة وفخار

    Every virtue and pride

    The day of dew, an abundant, overflowing sea

  36. يوم الندى بحر خضمّ زاخر

    إذ في الوغى ليث العوين الضاري

    For in commotion he is the fierce attacking lion

    He piled up the commotion, he gathered glory so for you is the highest

  37. طود الوغى جمّ الجدا فلك العلى

    رحب الفضا حامي حمى الجار

    Ample space, protector, guardian of neighbors

    And he is the cousin of the Quran, not

  38. وهو ابن عباس لدى القرآن لا

    كن في الحديث بخاري الأخبار

    Bukhari in the narrations of hadith

    And he is the friend in prosody and the authority of grammarians

  39. وهو الخليل لدى العروض وسيبوي

    ه النحاة فكيف بالأنباري

    Sibawayh so how are the vessels

    Or Maliki in jurisprudence but he is the combiner

  40. أو مالكيّ الفقه بل هو جامع

    كل المذاهب قل عقد إزار

    Of all the schools of thought, wrap the waistcloth

    Rather every art to other than it

  41. بل كلّ فنّ منه عن غيره

    لكن تسربل سنّة المختار

    But he wears the Sunnah of the Chosen one

    As for the reality, he is the talisman whose secret

  42. أما الحقيقة فهو طلسم سرها

    لكنه كنز من السرار

    But he is a treasure of mysterie

    So with insight and eloquence he eliminates the

  43. فبعبرة وعبارة يقضي الظلا

    م وعبرة خال من الأغبار

    Darkness, and insight devoid of motes

    And he practices abstinence, generosity, and desire

  44. وتورّع وتبرّع وتولّع

    وتخضّع وتضرّع للباري

    And humility, and supplication to the Creator

    He is the mirror of the people of God, the light of their brilliance

  45. مرآة أهل الله ضوء شعاعهم

    روح الزمان مشارق الأنوار

    The spirit of the age, the rise of lights

    Possessor of blessing, possessor of blessing, possessor of kindness

  46. ذو نعمة ذو نعمة ذو رأفة

    ذو رتبة في هيبة ووقار

    Possessor of status of reverence and dignity

    If it is said that there is in the river what is

  47. إن قيل إن النهر يوجد فيه ما

    لافي البحار فأعظم الأنهار

    Not in seas, so he is the greatest of rivers

    Or if with regards to greatness and dew

  48. أو كان من جهة العظامة والندى

    فهو البحار فكيف بالأمطار

    Then he is the sea, so how are with the rains

    And he is the spring, grace from whom

  49. وهو الربيع الفضل من يحيا به

    ميت القلوب وميت الأوزار

    The dead of hearts and the dead of burdens come alive

    Grace has locks and it is the keys

  50. للفضل أقفال وهو مفاتح ال

    أقفال معطى الفضل بالإكثار

    To locks, given grace with generosity

    He is relieved of wellness if what comes upon him

  51. يرتاح للعافي إذا ما جاءه

    مثل ارتياح فرزدق لنوار

    Is the like of the relief Farazdaq had from Nawar

    He is the best of the scholars, even the

  52. هو خير الأعلام والأحبار بلـ

    ـعلم على الأعلام والأحبار

    The standard bearer over scholars and experts

    The individuals every virtue, he is their individual

  53. أفراد كل فضيلة هو فردهم

    لكنه هو خير الأخيار

    But he is the best of the chosen ones

    He recommends protecting the neighbor and he is his guarantor

  54. يوصي بحفظ الجار وهو كفيله

    والله وصانا بحفظ الجار

    And Allah protected us in protecting the neighbor

    In his right with generosity is a thousand Hatem

  55. بيمينه في الجود ألف حاتم

    وكذاك ألا جعفر بيسار

    And likewise Ala' and Ja'far on his left

    And Yazid's mind comes to him a thousand times

  56. ويذهنه إياس ألفى مرة

    والشافعي في جودة الأفكار

    And Al Shafi'i in the generosity of ideas

    What do you think of the one God chose from

  57. ما ظنكم بمن اصطفاه الله من

    أهل التقرّب سادة الأعصار

    The people of devotion, the masters of times

    So sufficing him was graciously every one of his matters

  58. فكفاه تفضّلا جميع أموره

    وجرت ببغيته يد الأقدار

    And by his preference the days of fate flowed

    The lowest of his ranks is high above creation

  59. أدنى مراتبه العلو عن الورى

    وإدامة التدريس والأذكار

    And continuance in teaching and remembering

    O you who compare the tears of the eyes with others

  60. يا قائسا ماء العيون بغيره

    من سائر الغياب والحضار

    From the all the absent and present

    The burning thirst with the sun and the fire

  61. قست السها بالشمس والنيران

    بالماء والظلمات بالأنوار

    With water, and the darkness with the lights

    And likewise you, Oh envious one, so be brief or

  62. وكذاك أنت أيا حسود فقصر أو

    بالغ وضاعف صيغ الإنكار

    Exceed limits and duplicate forms of denial

    Or harm the barking of dogs or

  63. أو ضائر نبح الكلاب الشمس أو

    يؤذى النجوم تحرك الأشجار

    Harm the sun or move the trees

    And likewise, O you who try to count the traits of

  64. وكذاك يا من رمت تحصى خصال الـ

    ـقطب في الإظهار والإضمار

    The Pole in showing and concealment

    Summarize, elaborate, seek help, explain, add

  65. أجمل وفصل واستعن واشرح وزد

    وامدح وبالغ أنت بالمختار

    Praise, exaggerate, you with the chosen one

    You have not reached a tenth of his praise

  66. لم تبلغ المعشار من أمداحه

    كلا ولا جزءا من الأعثار

    No, not a piece of the khafiy

    The praises race toward his side

  67. تتسابق الأمداح نحو جنابه

    وقرائح الشعراء بالأشعار

    And the inspirations of the poets with poems

    That's while my statement of his superiority

  68. هذا وليس بمقدح ما قلته

    في فضل حبر شامخ المقدار

    Not a criticism for the grace of one high in rank

    So the majesty of the truthful one and the caliphs has not

  69. فجلالة الصديق والخلفاء لم

    تنقص فضيلة الال والأنصار

    Diminished the virtue of the Al and Ansar

    And indeed I knew that your merit is apparent

  70. ولقد علمت بأن فضلك ظاهر

    شمسا ولا تحتاج للإظهار

    Like the sun and needs no display

    As if by saying the heavens are above us

  71. ببوكقائل إنّ السماء من فوقنا

    والنار تحرق والضيا بنهار

    And fire burns, and daylight is in daytime

    And I knew that my words compile what

  72. وعلمت أن مقالتي تحصيل ما

    هو حاصل وإرادة التكرار

    Is compiled and is an intention to repeat

    But speaking truth does is not harmful

  73. لكن قول الحق ليس بضائر

    تكراره عن كل ما اخبار

    Its repetition on all reports

    Or harmful is our repeating of remembrance or

  74. أو ضائر تكرارنا للذكرأو

    إدماننا الصلوات للغفار

    Our dedication to prayer for the Forgiver

    O Pole, O beloved one, protector, ocean

  75. يا قطب يا خنذيذ يا صمصام يا

    بحر البحور وقرّة الأبصار

    Of oceans, and delight of sights

    O adornment of life and splendor of its people

  76. يا زينة الدنيا وبهجة أهلها

    يا خير أهل البدو والمصار

    The best of the people of desert and residences

    O my reliance, my pillar, my delight

  77. يا عدتي يا عمدتي يا نزهتي

    يا نصرتي يا زينتي ومنار

    My aid, my beauty and beacon

    You remain a crown over nobility and a full moon over reverence

  78. لازلت تاج على وبدر مهابة

    وطراز مكرمة وسيف وقار

    A decoration, honor, and noble sword

    And I hope the one called Responder extends

  79. ورجوت من يدعى مجيبا أن يصي

    ر عمركم من آخر الأعمار

    Your life from the last of ages

    O successor of the Chosen one, may you remain well

  80. يا وارث المختار دمت معافيا

    وصلاة مولانا على المختار

    And the prayer of our master upon the Chosen one

    The memorable statement of an enemy reproacher

  81. ما قال تذكرة غريم منشد

    الشعر خير نتائج الأفكار
