1. من ذكر حيّ مضى في سالف الزمن

    سقمت يا قلب حتى صرت كالزمن

    He who remembers the departed in times past

    My heart grew ill, as if it were time itself

  2. بليت حتى بليت من تذكّره

    وازددت حزنا على ما كان من حزن

    I suffered, suffering from remembering him

    And grew sadder for what sadness there had been

  3. والناس جاهلة ما فيك من شغف

    والعين باكية وأنت في شجن

    While people remain ignorant of your passion

    Your eyes weep as you grieve

  4. أبكى عليه ودمع العين منسكب

    حتى قلقت من الأحزان والمحن

    I weep for him as tears flow freely

    Until sadness and tribulation disturbed me

  5. أبكي عليه بكاء من تذكره

    بكاء ولهته في حالك الدّجن

    I weep for him with the weeping of one remembering

    Weeping bewildered in your gloomy state

  6. تبكي عليه بكاء زادني شغفا

    وقلقت منه أحشائي وقرّقني

    I weep for him with weeping that increased my passion

    And disturbed my entrails, lacerating me

  7. دع الوقوف على ديّاره وعلى

    أطلاله وعلى دوارس الدمن

    Stop standing at his dwellings and ruins

    And the remains of his palaces thick with blood

  8. وخل عنك الطوال والبكاء بها

    فليس ينفع مسكون بلا سكن

    Leave behind your lengthy crying there

    For one in an uninhabited place gets no benefit from it

  9. واقصد مدائح قطب حاذق لبق

    ينسيك للأهل والأحباب والوطن

    And seek out the praises of the adept Pole

    Who makes you forget family, loved ones and homeland

  10. سمح لبيب تقيّ عالمٌ بطل

    حبرٌ تقيّ بحبل الشرع مقترن

    Forgiving, brilliant, knowledgeable hero

    A pious sage bound by the rope of sacred law

  11. بحرٌ اشمّ شميمٌ طاهر علمٌ

    قطب سخيّ وفيّ زاهد فطن

    A fragrant, pure, wise ocean

    A generous Pole, dutiful and discerning

  12. فخاض بحر العلى منذ الصبا وعلا

    على الذي قد علا في البدو والمدن

    He plunged into the sea of knowledge from his youth and ascended

    Above what had ascended among both nomads and settled folk

  13. وخاض بحر الهدى وللطّغاة هدى

    كلا وخاض بحار الحق بالسفن

    He plunged into the sea of guidance, providing guidance to tyrants

    Indeed, he sailed the seas of truth in ships

  14. فمثلكم لم يكن هنا وليس يرى

    فيما مضى أبدا في سالف الزمن

    The like of you has not been here, nor will be seen

    In times past, ever in the course of time

  15. وإن يكن فيه يا ماء العيون فلم

    تبصره عيني ولم تسمع به أذني

    And if he is in them, O waters of my eyes, I have not

    Seen him with my eyes nor heard of him with my ears

  16. فمن أيا ماء عيني للأناس متى

    ما حلّ ضيمٌ ومن للداء في البدن

    For to whom, O waters of my eyes, do people turn when

    Harm befalls and sickness strikes the body

  17. ومن لهم عندما حلّت بهم إزمٌ

    ومن لهم عند دفع الظالم الدخن

    To whom do they turn when crisis descends upon them

    And when the oppressor casts smoke upon them

  18. ومن لهم من لهم فيما يحلّ بهم

    سواك يا ملجئي في السر والعلن

    To whom do they turn for what befalls them

    Other than you, my refuge in secret and openly

  19. فأنت إذ ذاك تنجيهم وتنقدهم

    من المضرّة والظلام والفتن

    For then you save them and rescue them

    From harm, darkness and trials

  20. طليق وجه لدى انسكاب راحته

    كأنه البرق في انسكاب ما المزن

    An open-faced downpour of tranquility

    As if he were lightning in a downpour of rain

  21. بدر منير كأنّ الضوء منتشر

    والبدر مقتبس من وجهه الحسن

    A shining full moon as if light

    Radiated from his beautiful face

  22. له يدان يد مبسوطة أبدا

    على الورى ويد تزيل للمحن

    He has two hands, one always

    Outstretched upon creation, the other removing tribulations

  23. للّه للّه ما للناس من نعم

    أسدى جميعا وما يزيل من درن

    By God, by God, what blessings upon people

    He bestowed in full and removed of harms

  24. عن القلوب وما عن الرسول حوى

    من العلوم وما أحيا من السنن

    From hearts, and what he encompassed

    Of knowledge from the Messenger, and what traditions he revived

  25. الطاهر الحسن ابن الطاهر الحسن

    ابن الطاهر الحسن ابن الطاهر الحسن

    The pure, the beautiful, son of the pure, the beautiful

    Son of the pure, the beautiful, son of the pure, the beautiful

  26. والواهب المنن ابن الواهب المنن

    ابن الواهب المنن ابن الواهب المنن

    The Giver of Blessings, son of the Giver of Blessings

    Son of the Giver of Blessings, son of the Giver of Blessings

  27. فمثلكم في الورى يا خير كل فتى

    ما كان قط وحتّى الآن لم يكن

    The like of you among all youth, O best of any lad

    Has never been before, nor until now has come to be

  28. مدحتكم ولقد يكلّ مدحكم

    حمل القراطيس والأقلام واللسن

    To praise you exhausts scrolls, pens and tongues

    Yet I have come with little to say, O my hope

  29. لكن أتيت بقول قلّ يا أملي

    ورب قول قليل جاد بالحسن

    And perhaps a little quality speech flows with beauty

    I have come seeking refuge at the door of your bounty

  30. أتيت ملتجئا لباب فضلكم

    من الذنوب فقد قادتني بالرسن

    From sins, for they have led me with the bridle

    I want to be immersed in the bounty of a Lord

  31. اريد أن يغمرني الفضل من ملك

    رب رحيم عن الأعمال هو غنّي

    Merciful King, from acts for which He needs nothing

    May God bless the Chosen One, as long as

  32. صلى الاله على المختار ما سجعت

    حمامةٌ أو بكى طير على فنن

    A pigeon coos or a bird weeps over the branches.
