ماذا أفدت بأشعاري وروعتها

سوى علالة تخليد لآثاري

What have I gained from my poetry and its splendor

Other than immortalizing the traces of my disgrace?

وما الخلود بمأثور لعارية

غير الخسيسين من ترب وأحجار

Immortality through borrowed words is nothing

But dirt and rocks for the despised.
