لا شعرَ لا إلهامَ إن لم يأتني

شوقًا ليضربَ هدأتي وسكوني

No poetry, no inspiration, should yearning not come

To disturb my calm and stir up my stillness -

إعصارَ حبٍّ .. يستفزّ صبابتي

ويثيرُ من دمعِ الحنين شجوني

A tempest of love to provoke my youth,

And evoke from the tears of longing my lament.
