I need rain so my femininity may blossom

From the stubborn rock of the soul, an anemone.

سرباً من القبلات حبلى بالسنا

حتى أكون بختم قلبكَ أليقا

A flock of kisses, pregnant with bliss,

So I can be most fitting to your heart's seal.

كفين تحترفان هدهدة المسا

صدراً إذا غمز الصباح تأنّقا

Two palms that master the murmur of touch,

A breast if dawn winks, becomes elegant.

كتفين تصطنع الأمان قصائداً

شفتين من كلّ القصائد أصدقا

Two shoulders that construct safety into poems,

Two lips of all poems most honest.

روحاً إذا ذُكر الجمال حسبتها

أوركيد من ذات الجمال تفتّقا

A spirit that if beauty is mentioned, it's deemed

An orchid of that same beauty, prolific.

كن كلّ من في الأرض كن أرضاً وكن

نهراً بخمر روائنا متدفّقا

Be everything on earth, be earth and be

A river of our wine overflowing.

وكن السماء إذا ضممتَ جوانحي

خُلقت يداك عظيمةً لأحلّقا

And be the sky, if you gather my wings,

Your hands are grand so I may soar.

ومشاكساً.. عيناه نبع براءة

ومغامراً أنّى ارتقيتُ ليَ ارتقى

And quarrelsome...his eyes a spring of innocence

And adventurous, however high I climbed, so he may climb.

أنا لا أريدك في هواي محارباً

أحلامنا العظمى تريدك فيلقا

I do not want you in my love a warrior,

Our greatest dreams want you a brigade.

إنّي انتظرتك منذ ألف وقيعةٍ

فمتى تُغير على الفؤاد ليُعتقا

I've been waiting for you since a thousand laments,
