1. Eyes were made to weep, their tears scattered like pearls,

    By the loss of Shayba, the abode of faith and generosity.

  2. He was brave and generous, peerless in his nobility;

    His virtues tower above the lords of nations.

  3. Abu al-Harith has passed away, whose bounty was hoped for,

    And whose might was sought among people and blessings.

  4. He is the chief whom no creature precedes,

    On the morning he defends the champions with the banner.

  5. He tends the House, God's House, filling it

    With light, thus dispelling the eclipse of drought and darkness.

  6. Master of the mat in the House's courtyard, a mark of honor;

    Through this, those of glory and ancient standing were distinguished.

  7. All Quraysh wept for their father, and for

    Their leader and refuge, whose pillars stood firm.

  8. Safiyya, weep and freely pour out tears for him;

    And join the lament, O Umayma, today with streaming tears.

  9. Women of a clan from Banu Asad will answer you,

    And the radiant ones of Zuhra, after the Arabs and non-Arabs.

  10. Was he not the adornment of all the people of the earth,

    And humankind's safeguard, from ʿAd and from Iram?
