1. Come to your senses, sons of Ghalib, and desist

From wrongdoing in some of this talk.

  2. And if not, then I indeed fear

    Calamities converging in your abode,

  3. That will be a lesson to others,

By the Lord of the wests and the east—

  4. Like what befell those who were before you:

    Thamud and Ad—who, then, survived?

  5. Then wrath descended upon them for it,

From God, at the blue-eyed one's blow,

  6. On the morning a fierce, cold wind brought it upon them,

And the she-camel of the Lord of the Throne, when she sought water,

  7. On the morning he made her hock feel the bite

Of a gleaming sword from India.

  8. And stranger than that, among your affairs,

Are marvels in the stone stuck fast

  9. To the palm of the one who rose, driven by his doom,

Against the patient, truthful, God-fearing man.

  10. So God made it rigid in his palm,

Against the will of that unjust fool—

  11. Your Makhzum's little fool, when he went astray,

Through the error of the erring, and spoke no truth.
