أَنا أَبو فِرعَونَ فَاِعرِف كُنيَتي

حَلَّ أَبو عَمرَةَ وُسطَ حُجرَتي

I am Abu Faraw'an so recognize my nickname

Abu 'Amrah settled in the middle of my room

وَحَلَّ نَسجُ العَنكَبوتِ بُرمَتي

أَعشَبَ تَنّوري وَقَلَّت حِنطَتي

And the spider's web wove my mattress

My oven is overgrown with weeds and my provisions are scarce

وَحالَفَ القَملُ زَماناً لِحيَتي

وَضَعُفَت مِنَ الهُزالِ ضَرطَتي

The lice have long sworn allegiance to my beard

My butt has weakened from emaciation

وَصارَ تُباني كَفافَ خِصيَتي

أَيرُ حِمارٍ في حَرِ أُمِّ عيشَتي

My rags suffice to cover my private parts

Would the braying of a donkey in the heat suffice for my livelihood
