وَقَد زادَ نَفسي وَاِطمَأَنَّت وَآمَنَت

بِهِ اليَومَ ما لاقى جَوادُ اِبنِ مُدلِجِ

And my soul has been calmed and assured

By what the steed of Ibn Mudlij faced today

سُراقَةَ إِذ يَبغي عَلَينا بِكَيدِهِ

عَلى أَعوَجِيٍّ كَالهِراوَةِ مُدمَجِ

When Surāqah sought to plot against us

On a lame she-camel patched together

فَقالَ رَسولُ اللَهِ يا رَبِّ أَعنِهِ

فَمَهما تَشَأ مِن مُفظَعِ الأَمرِ تَفرِجِ

So Allah’s Messenger said: My Lord, aid him!

And whatever dire situation You relieve

فَساخَت بِهِ في الأَرضِ حَتّى تَغَيَّبَت

حَوافِرُهُ في بَطنِ وادٍ مُفَجَّجِ

Her hooves sank into the earth till hidden

In the belly of a rugged valley

فَأَعناهُ رَبُّ العَرشِ عَنّا وَرَدَّهُ

وَلَولا دِفاعُ اللَهِ لَم يَتَعَرَّجِ

So the Lord of the Throne aided him against us and repelled him

And had Allah not defended, he would have wavered
