أَجِدَّكَ ما لِعَينِكَ لا تَنامُ

كَأَنَّ جُفونَها فيها كِلامُ

I find you sleepless, as if your eyelids

Contain endless conversation

لِأَمرِ مُصيبَةٍ عَظُمَت وَجَلَّت

وَدَمعُ العَينِ أَهوَنُهُ اِنسِجامُ

For a greatly saddening matter that made us anxious

And the tears of the eyes are the easiest to flow

فُجِعنا بِالنَبِيِّ وَكانَ فينا

إِمامَ كَرامَةٍ نِعمَ الإِمامُ

We were anguished by the loss of the Prophet, who was

A leader of great dignity; what an excellent imam

وَكانَ قِوامَنا وَالرَأسَ فينا

فَنَحنُ اليَومَ لَيسَ لَنا قِوامُ

He was our pillar and leader amongst us

Yet today we have no leader

نَموجُ وَنَشتَكي ما قَد لَقينا

وَيَشكو فَقدَهُ البَلَدُ الحَرامُ

We toss like waves, lamenting what we have suffered

And the holy land laments the loss of him

كَأَنَّ أُنوفَنا لاقَينَ جَدعاً

لِفَقدِ مُحَمَّدٍ فيهِ اِصطِلامُ

It is as if our noses were cut off

Due to the loss of Muhammad, in whom there is consolation

لِفَقدِ أَغَرَّ أَبيَضَ هاشِمِيٍّ

تَمامِ نُبُوَّةٍ وَبِهِ الخِتامُ

Due to the loss of the most virtuous Hashimite

The perfection of prophethood and its seal

أَمينٍ مُصطَفىً لِلخَيرِ يَدعو

كَضَوءِ البَدرِ زايَلَهُ الظَلامُ

The trusted Mustafa who calls to goodness

Like the light of the full moon dispelling darkness

سَأَتبَعُ هَديَهُ مادُمتُ حَيّاً

طَوالَ الدَهرِ ما سَجَعَ الحَمامُ

I will follow his guidance as long as I live

For as long as the dove moans

أَدينُ بِدينِهِ وَلِكُلِّ قَومٍ

تَراهُم مِن ذُؤابَتِهِ نِظامُ

I adhere to his religion, and each people

You see has a system from his way

فَقَدنا الوَحيَ مُذ وَلَّيتَ عَنّا

وَوَدَّعَنا مِنَ اللَهِ الكَلامُ

We lost revelation since you turned away from us

And the words of God bid us farewell

سِوى ما قَد تَرَكتَ لَنا رَهيناً

تَوارَثُهُ القَراطيسُ الكِرامُ

Except what you left behind for us as a pledge

Inherited by the generous scripts

فَقَد أَورَثتَنا ميراثَ صِدقٍ

عَلَيكَ بِهِ التَحِيَّةُ وَالسَلامُ

For you have bequeathed to us a legacy of truthfulness

Greetings and peace be upon you for it

مِنَ الرَحمنِ في أَعلى جِنانٍ

مِنَ الفِردَوسِ طابَ بِها المُقامُ

From the Most Merciful in the highest gardens

Of Paradise, the dwelling therein is pleasant

رَفيقَ أَبيكَ إِبراهيمَ فيها

فَهَل في مِثلِ صُحبَتِهِ نَدامُ

The companion of your father Abraham therein

Is there any regret in such companionship?

وَإِسحاقٌ وَإِسماعيلُ فيها

بِما صَلّوا لِرَبِّهِمُ وَصاموا

And Isaac and Ishmael are therein

For their prayers to their Lord and fasting

فَلا تَبعَد فَكُلُّ كَريمِ قَومٍ

سَيُدرِكُهُ وَلَو كَرِهَ الحِمامُ

So do not be distant, for every generous person

Will attain it, even if the doves dislike it

كَأَنَّ الأَرضَ بَعدَكَ طارَ فيها

فَأَشعَلَها بِساكِنِها ضِرامُ

It is as if the earth, after you, took flight

And ignited it and its inhabitants
