1. أهدي إليكَ ثناءَ العرب والعجمِ

    جودٌ أبر على الداماء والديمِ

    I bestow upon you the praise of Arabs and non-Arabs

    A generosity purer than blood and tears

  2. وأبصرت جودك الآمالُ فابتدرت

    على همامٍ عليِّ القدر والهممِ

    And your generosity was seen by hopes, so they rushed

    To ambitions, high in decree and determination

  3. كفته أمر أعاديه سعادته

    فنال ما رامه فيهم ولم يرم

    His command stopped the harm of his enemies, bringing him joy

    So he attained what he wanted from them, and did not desire more

  4. مستقبل العمرِ قد عاد الزمان بهِ

    إلى الشباب وقد أوفى على الهرمِ

    The future of life has returned with time

    To youth, even having fulfilled old age

  5. لا غرو أن يتسمى غيرهُ ملكاً

    فليس يلتبسُ المنكورُ بالعلمِ

    No wonder that others are called king

    For the unknown does not mix with the flag

  6. ليس التقاربُ في الألفاظِ ملتفتاً

    يا بعد ما بين معنى البهمِ والبهمِ

    Closeness in words is not given heed

    Oh how far between the meaning of confusion and confusion

  7. سطا وجادَ أبو يعقوبَ فاعترفت

    له الملوكُ بفضلِ البأسِ والكرَمِ

    Simple and generous is Abu Ya'qub, so

    The kings acknowledged his might and generosity

  8. تبقى الفوارس والكتابُ حائرةً

    إن قط بالسيف أو إن خط بالقلمِ

    The knights and writers are left confused

    Whether by the sword or if writing with the pen

  9. غريبةٌ لم يعاين مثلها زمنٌ

    وندرةٌ لا تراها العينُ في الحلمِ

    Strange, no era has seen its like

    And a rarity not seen by the eye even in a dream

  10. أوفى الملوكِ وأكفاهم لمعضلةٍ

    تعيي الكفاة وأهداهم إلى اللقمِ

    The most faithful and sufficient of kings for a quandary

    That frustrates the sufficient and guides them to morsels

  11. والناسُ في الخلقِ أشباهٌ إذا نُظروا

    وإنما اختلفوا في الخلقِ والشيمِ

    And people in character are similar when looked upon

    But only differed in trait and quality

  12. بنى مناراً على التقوى تطالعهُ

    زهرُ الكواكبِ والأفلاك من أُمَمِ

    He built a tower on piety, looked upon

    By the blossoms of planets and the orbits of nations

  13. وهد ما كان مبنياً على جُرُفٍ

    هارٍ ولم يبن من تقوى على دعم

    And destroyed what was built on unsafe, ruined

    Cliffs and did not build from piety on a foundation
