ببسيطِ العالمِ تعتضِدُ

وعلى معبودكَ تعتمدُ

You support the world with simplicity,

And rely on your worshipped one,

ماضرَّ عُلاكَ وقد بهرت

من يحجبُهُ عنها الرمَدُ

Your ascent has prospered, though the bleary eyed are veiled from it,

The enemies are miserable even if they think,

شقيَ الأعداءُ وإن حسبوا

بمروقِهِم أن قد سعدُوا

With their shining, that they are fortunate,

And they return treachery with treachery, though

وردُوا غدرانَ الغدرِ وَلا

صدرٌ عنهُنَّ لمن يَرِدُ

No breast yields to the one who wants to repel them,

They disbelieved when they became many,

كفروا لما كثروا وزَكَت

أموالُهُم ونما العدَدُ

And their wealth increased, and their number grew,

Blessings were given as blessings, but they transgressed,

نعمٌ رُزِقَت نعماً فطغت

وبغت فأتيحَ لها الأسدُ

And sought corruption, so the lion was unleashed upon them,

They were not deterred by the striking swords and the wailing,

ما غرَّهُمُ بهزبرِ وغىً

حلقُ الماذيِّ لهُ لِبَدُ

The neck of the stubborn one is for it to tear,

A lion to which the lions submit,

أسدٌ تنقادُ لهُ الآسا

دُ كما تنقادُ لها الفُهُدُ

As the cheetahs submit to it,

The fires of its rage blaze,

تذكو نيرانُ حفيظتِهِ

فيكادُ يذوبُ لها الزرَدُ

And for it the armor almost melts,

For it, from its resolve, is a number,

فلهُ من عزمتِهِ عَدَدٌ

ولهُ من نجدتِهِ عُدَدُ

And for it, from its support, is a number,

It encounters the heroes and demolishes what

يلقى الأبطالَ فينقضُ ما

عقدوا ويناقِضُ ما اعتقدُوا

They constructed, and invalidates what they believed,

Blood pouring is a warding off, and a covering is scattering,

فدمٌ دفعٌ وطلى بددٌ

وظباً قددٌ وقناً قصدُ

And prey being hunted, and spears being aimed,

The earthly one trusts that with its company

يثقُ الأرضيُّ بصحبتِهِ

إن العلويَّ لهُ مددُ

The heavenly will give it support,

The angels hoard while you, Abū Yaʿqūb, give generously what you find,

ذخرَ الأملاكُ وأنتَ أبا

يعقوبَ تجودُ بما تجدُ

They make promises but do not fulfill what they promised, while you give generously without promising,

You brought your palm together with dew and flowers,

يعدونَ ولا يوفُونَ بما

وعدوا وتجودُ ولا تعِدُ

So one hand pours forth, and one hand gifts,

You purified life - no turbidity,

جمعت كفاكَ ندىً وردى

فتصوبُ يدٌ وتصولُ يدث

And established the religion - so no dissension,

If I said you are more respected than anyone,

أصفيتَ العيشَ لا كدرٌ

وأقمتَ الدينَ فلا أودُ

With whom one contends with me,

You did not come with one similar to you,

لو قلتُ بأنكَ أوقرُ من

أحدٍ مما نازعني أحدُ

And I neither bore him, nor gives birth,

No king’s insight about you was mistaken,

لم تأتِ بمشبهكَ الأيا

مُ ولا ولدتُه ولا تلدُ

A king for the world to examine,

The lights of his insight,

ما كذبَ فيكَ فِراسَتَهُ

ملكٌ للعالمِ منتقدُ

And his virtues, are blazing torches,

The clothes of religion through him are renewed,

ملكٌ أنوارُ بصيرتِهِ

ومناقِبُهُ سُرُجٌ تَقِدُ

And the path of truth through him extended,

أثوابُ الدينِ بهِ جُدُدٌ

وسبيلُ الحقِّ لهُ جددُ
