إذا ما وردنا ماء مدين أشرقت

موارد وردي في انتهازي فرصتي

If we come upon sweet water of a city,

My roses blossom in seizing my opportunity.

وإبت بما أرجو من الدهر إذ مرا

مي وصل لأوج الدائرات بجذبتي

And I attain what I hope from fate when it passes,

My water reaches the peak of the cycles with its pull.

فتنخرط الأرواح مني بمشهد

المعارف والأسرار من حيث نشأتي

So the souls detach themselves from me at the scene

Of knowledges and secrets from where I originated.

ولكن إذا رمت الورود وقد كُلم

تُ من ظمإ في الهاجرات الظميئة

But if the roses are discarded after being gathered

And I come to the people's neighborhood hoping for their drink

وجئت لحي القوم أرجو شرابهم

بلا مهر أرواح ولا بذل مهجتي

Without a price of souls or spending my brain,

Not distracted from the adornment of decoration that is

ولا فانيا عن زينة الزخرفا من

هوائية الدنيا بغشية غفلتي

From the airiness of the world with the cover of my neglect.

Nor taking off from me the clothes of thoughts

ولا خالعا عني ثياب خواطر

تكدر قلبي عن وصالي لحضرتي

That disturb my heart from connecting with my presence.

Nor being wary of the veils over my heart

ولا فاتقا رتق الغشاوات عن قلي

ب من كدرات الجسم في أصل طينتي

Of turbidities of the body in the origin of my clay.

Nor untying the knots of barriers from the enclosure

ولا راتقا فتق القواطع من حضي

ضِ سفليات الأوهام في قفص شهوتي

Of lower illusions in the cage of my desire.

Nor staying up hoping for her presence,

ولا ساهرا في الحي أرجو وصالها

ولا ساهيا عن كل كلي وجملتي

Nor forgetting about all of me and my totality.

Nor turning away from me the ropes of passion, and not

ولا صارفا عني حبال الهوى ولا

تصاممت عما يقطعن وصل وصلتي

Insisting on what would cut off and connect my connection.

Nor holding back from me the tears of eyelids

ولا كفكفت عني دموع غوادق

تطهر جفني من سواها وتوبتي

That purify my eyelids from others and my repentance.

Nor repenting from every wolf and thought,

ولا تائبا من كل ذئب وخاطر

ووهم وإلباس وتكدر أكلتي

Delusion, confusion and turbidity that consumed me.

Nor going back to what the fortunes entice me with

ولا راجعا عما تراودني الحظو

ظ مما سيرديني بأسباب هفوتي

Of what will return me to the reasons for my loss.

And I said to the gatekeeper of the final hearts,

وقلت لبواب القلوب الأخيرة

لم أجهدته الدهريات بسورتي

"Why have the worldly ones wearied you with my description?"

So he said, "There is no hope of love, so have mercy

فقال وما في الحب يطمع فارحمي

أسيرك قد أبلته كل عظيمة

On your prisoner whom every great one has tested.

There is no superiority of one whose sharp swords

ولا فضل من أثخنته صوارم

بألحاظ ليلاه أغثني بعطفة

Wounded him with her glances. Relieve me with kindness."

So I said, "Am I capable of your condition?" He said,

فقلت وهل أقوى على شرطكم فقا

ل إن صح منك الحب تقوى لصحبتي

"If your love is true, you are capable of my companionship."

"They asked permission for the veil, they asked permission for us

واستأذنوا الحجاب يستأذنوا لنا

لنحظى بما ترجو الأماني وبغيتي

To enjoy what the wishes and my goal desire."

"And how can we drink if we don't have

وكيف لنا بالشرب إن لم تكن لنا

دراهم عند الحانوي وأهبتي

Coins at the tavern and my gift?"

So I said, "Indeed, your beauties have overpowered minds.

فقلت لقد أربت محاسنكم على ال

عقول ما أدري بأية وجهة

I don't know in what way I should meet you, O people of affection."

They said, "Favor us, for longing has destroyed my determination

أقابلكم يا أهل ود وهم هم

فمنوا فإن الشوق أودى بصولتي

And your perfections, my close ones, have wearied my soul and brain."

"And I tested my body in passion for you, and deprived

وأنهكني قد أودعتني محاسنا

شناشنكم قربت نفسي ومهجتي

My eyelids in watching for your image at every moment."

"And I purified my heart from other than you, so I do not see

وأبليت جسمي في هواكم وأسهرت

جفوني أراعي الطيف في كل لحظة

In existence other than you in my folds."

"And I abundantly remembered you, so the places

وطهرت قلبي من سواكم فلا أرو

م في الكون إلا أنتم في طويتي

Of my pillars were ennobled by remembering my loved ones."

"And I decided not to cease observing your presence

وأكثرت من ذكري لكم فتشرفت

مكامن أركاني بذكر أحبتي

Until the Garden of Paradise at the peak of its chambers."

"And I loved who you loved, and if my religion

وآليت لا أنفك أرعى وصالكم

إلى جنة الفردوس في أوج غرفة

Loves whom you loved, then so does my disposition."

So he said, "You have presented a lover's proof

وأحببت من أحببتموه وإن دي

ني يهوى الذي أحببتموه وشكيمتي

And gestured with infatuation in the matter of my connection."

So I said, "Beauty's way is evidence, so have mercy

فقال لقد أدليت حجة عاشق

وأومأت بالتهيام في شأن وصلتي

On a prisoner who has become handcuffed."

"In any case, my heart is fixed on you,

فقلت وإن الحسن من شأنه الدلا

ل فارع أسيرا قد غدا بالأعنة

And if I die at the threshold, I die by my passion."

"If there is no news, then give life with what

على كل حال قلبي وقف عليكم

وإن مت في الأعتاب مت بعشقتي

Comes to me of news. Excellent is the confidant for my anxiety."

"Here I am, thrown at the door, hoping

فإن لم يكن خبر فأحيا بما أتا

ني من خبر نعم السمير لنهمتي

For your kindness at every morning and spirit."

وها أنا مطروح على الباب أرتجي
