1. أشطَّ بجيرانِكَ المنزلُ

    أم انتَ لبينهم مُثقَلُ

    Has the dwelling borne your neighbors far away?

    Or are you weighed down by their separation?

  2. وقد عُمِّرُوا بيننا حقبةً

    فصرفَهُم دهرُنا المُفصلُ

    They had been granted a span of life among us,

    then our sundering Time turned them away.

  3. مراقيدُ حينَ يُحَبُّ الرُّقَادُ

    إلى أخصبَ الناسُ أوأمحلوا

    Resting places, whenever sleep is desired,

    until the people prospered—or suffered drought.

  4. رأيتُ لها فضلَها بارِزاً

    على كُلِّ حالٍ إذا يَعزِلُ

    I saw that its excellence stood manifest,

    in every condition, whenever he removes [it].
