Pure wine, drawn from the juice of grapes—
O friend—is the sweetest thing ever drunk:
wine that shows you, when it is mixed,
within the cup, a chain of gold.
It was matured by time’s fire, not
by the fire of fierce burning and flame.
Let your drinking of it not be barred by
the month of Muharram or Rajab.
And seize your time—for indeed it
truly plunders the youth of your life.
