1. نَأَتكَ سُلَيمى فَالفُؤادُ قَريحُ

    وَلَيسَ لِحاجاتِ الفُؤادِ مُريحُ

    Sulayma comes to you, and the heart is bleak,

    There is no comfort for the needs of a bleak heart,

  2. إِذا ذُقتَ فاها قُلتَ طَعمُ مُدامَةٍ

    مُشَعشَعَةٍ تُرخي الإِزارَ قَديحُ

    If you taste her mouth, you would say a drink

    Of sparkling wine that reveals the thigh's wrap, decanter,

  3. بِماءِ سَحابٍ في أَباريقِ فِضَّةٍ

    لَها ثَمَنٌ في البايِعينَ رَبيحُ

    With water from clouds in silver jugs

    That has a price with the sellers sweeping,

  4. تَأَمَّل خَليلي هَل تَرى مِن ظَعائِنٍ

    يَمانِيَّةٍ قَد تَغتَدي وَتَروحُ

  5. كَعَومِ السَفينِ في غَوارِبِ لُجَّةٍ

    تُكَفِّئُها في ماءِ دِجلَةَ ريحُ

    Like the swimming of a boat in rough seas

    That a wind capsizes it in the water of the Tigris,

  6. جَوانِبُها تَغشى المَتالِفَ أَشرَفَت

    عَلَيهِنَّ صُهبٌ مِن يَهودَ جُنوحُ

    Its sides cover Al-Mutalif and overlook upon them reddish clouds

    From Jews extend,

  7. وَقَد أَغتَدي قَبلَ الغَطاطِ وَصاحِبي

    أَمينُ الشَظا رِخوُ اللَبانِ سَبوحُ

    And she fed before dinner and my companion

    The trustworthy neighbor, soft of butter, glorious,

  8. إِذا حَرَّكَتهُ الساقُ قُلتَ مُجَنَّبٌ

    غَضيضٌ غَذَتهُ عَهدَةٌ وَسُروحُ

    If the leg moves it you would say a kept aside

    Green tender fed heritage and cypresses,

  9. مَراتِعُهُ القيعانُ فَردٌ كَأَنَّهُ

    إِذا ما تُماشيهِ الظِباءُ نَطيحُ

    Its pastures are the meadows, a stallion as if

    When the deer accompany his walk, a fighter,

  10. فَهاجَ لَهُ حَيٌّ غَداةً فَأَوسَدوا

    كِلاباً فَكُلُّ الضارِياتِ يُشيحُ

    So a living tribe attacked him in the morning and made

    Dogs so all predators flee,

  11. إِذا خافَ مِنهُنَّ اللِحاقَ نَمَت بِهِ

    قَوائِمُ حَمشاتُ الأَسافِلِ روحُ

    If they fear its reach, the pillars of the lower

    Feet awake in it spirit,

  12. وَقَد أَترُكُ القِرنَ الكَمِيَّ بِصَدرِهِ

    مُشَلشِلَةٌ فَوقَ النِطاقِ تَفوحُ

    And I let the curly horn in its chest

    Disheveled above the belt smelly,

  13. دَفوعٌ لِأَطرافِ الأَنامِلِ ثَرَّةٌ

    لَها بَعدَ إِشرافِ العَبيطِ نَشيحُ

    Repels for the fingertips of mud a thick,

    After the nails look, snorting,

  14. إِذا جاءَ سِربٌ مِن ظِباءٍ يَعُدنَهُ

    تَبادَرنَ شَتّى كُلُّهُنَّ تَنوحُ

    If a group of deer comes counting it

    They compete, all moan,
