Her star never set,
nor did her hope ever fail.
Noble in character,
in standing and lineage,
her tenderness was like a tent,
secured with the most precious tent-rope.
Within it she had sheltered a young man,
noble-hearted and lofty in rank.
When she saw him returning
with her acquired wealth,
she held out her hand to him,
with guilelessness and decorum.
،
Khadija—and it was enough for him
that her name was like gold.
The first husband she lodged
within her heart was the best Prophet.
She was like a mother to him in
her tenderness, and like a father.
She remained his guardian,
patient amid anguish.
She lowered her wing over him
in hope and fear,
and bestowed on him a mercy
that eased him of weariness.
When he came to her one night
in a troubled state,
she told him, “Take heart, for
you have attained a mighty aim.
By God, He will never disgrace you—the One
who granted you the glory of the ages.”
That was Khadija, who
departed in the Arabs’ glory.
Her beloved gave her glad tidings
of a dwelling made of hollow pearl.
