1. ابتهلْ، فالسَّماءُ تفتَحُ باب

    ومضيقُ الأسى يَصير رحابا

    Pray, for the sky will open its door

    And the strait of sorrow will become spacious

  2. ابتهلْ صادقاً، تَرَ النورَ يَهمي

    وترى ما طلبتَه مُستجابا

    Pray sincerely, you will see the light rushing

    And you will see what you asked for, fulfilled

  3. أنتَ لا تسألُ العبادَ، ولكنْ

    تسألُ الله رازقاً وهَّابا

    You do not ask the servants, but

    You ask Allah, the Bestower, the Gift-Giver

  4. تسألُ اللهَ قادراً، حين يقضي

    بقضاءٍ يطوِّع الأَسبابا

    You ask Allah, the Capable, when He decrees

    A decree that tames the means

  5. لا تَخَفْ سَطْوَةَ البُغَاةِ، إِذا م

    أشعلوا النارَ فتنةً واضطرابا

    Do not fear the tyranny of the unjust, if they

    Kindle sedition and turmoil

  6. جَبَروتُ العبادِ ضَعْفٌ، وإل

    فلماذا لا يَغلبونَ ذُبابا؟!

    The might of servants is weakness, so

    Why can they not overcome flies?!

  7. ولماذا لا يدفعون المناي

    حين تأتي، ويكشفون الحجابا؟!

    And why can they not ward off death

    When it comes, and uncover the veil?!

  8. ولماذا لا يصمُدون، إذا م

    حرَّك البحرُ موجَه الصَّخَّابا؟!

    And why can they not withstand, when

    The sea stirs its foamy waves?!

  9. أيُّها الشاعر الذي بات يَبكي

    ما لعينيكَ تُخْجِلانِ السَّحابا؟!

    O poet who spends the night weeping

    Why do your eyes embarrass the clouds?!

  10. كَفْكِفِ الدَّمعَ، واطرد اليأسَ حتى

    لا ترى منه أسْهُماً ورِهَابا

    Restrain the tears, and expel despair until

    You do not see any of its arrows and fright

  11. كيْفَ تهفو إلى القشور، وعهدي

    بك لا تَستطيب إلاَّ اللُّبابا؟

    How do you aspire for husks, while my pact with you

    Is that you only savor the choicest?

  12. أيُّها السائلُ الحبيبُ، تمهَّلْ

    قبل أنْ تُلْبِسَ السُّؤالَ العتابا

    O beloved questioner, wait

    Before clothing your question with blame

  13. آهِ، لو أنَّ ما بقلبي تجلَّى

    لك حِسَّاً ولوعةً واكتئابا

    Ah, if what is in my heart appeared

    To you, even a little grief and melancholy

  14. لو تأمَّلْتَ ما حَوَى الصَّدْرُ مني

    لرأتْ مقلتاكَ قلباً مُذَابا

    If you contemplated what my chest contains

    Your eyes would see a melting heart

  15. ورأيتَ الذي يقوم بعذري

    في زمانٍ يفرِّق الأَحبابا

    And you would see the one who advocates for me

    In an era that separates loved ones

  16. آهِ من أمتي، أَلَسْتَ تراه

    صَيَّرَتْ قصرَها المُنيفَ خرابا

    Ah, from my nation, do you not see it

    Turned its towering palace into ruins?

  17. تتضاغى السِّباعُ حَوْلَ حِمَاه

    وهي تبكي لأنَّ قيساً تصابى

    The predators fight over its protection

    As it weeps because Qays fell in love

  18. ولأنَّ الغرامَ أصبح نار

    بين أضلاعه تزيد الْتهابا

    And because love has become a fire

    Between his ribs, increasing inflammation

  19. لم تزلْ أمتي، ترى السيفَ غمد

    وترى جَيْئَةَ العدوِّ ذَهَابا

    My nation still sees the sword sheathed

    And sees the coming of enemies as leaving

  20. وترى أَنْجُمَ السّماءِ ثقوب

    وترى حُمْرَةَ الأصيلِ خضابا

    It sees the stars of the sky as holes

    And sees the redness of the wound as dye

  21. لم تزلْ ترقب الضَّيَاعَ بعين

    وبأخرى تراقب السِّردابا

    It still anticipates loss with one eye

    And with the other watches the mirage

  22. جَلَّ قَدْرُ المهديِّ عن حالِ قومٍ

    جعلوا الشَّتْمَ ذكرَهم والسِّبابا

    The worth of the Mahdi is too high for a people

    Who made insulting him their mention and curse

  23. لم تزل أمتي تجِّهز جيش

    .عربياً يُغلِّق الأَبوابا

    My nation still prepares an Arab army

    To close the doors

  24. وتلاقي أعداءَها وهي حَيْرَى

    حَسِبَتْهم من جهلها أصحابا

    And meets its enemies while confused

    It thought them, out of ignorance, friends

  25. جهزَتْ مِزْهَراً وناياً وبُوق

    لتُلاقي سيوفَهم والحِرابا

    It prepared flowers, flutes, and drums

    To meet their swords and wars

  26. طائراتُ العِدَا تَسُدُّ فضاءً

    وأساطيلُهم تشقُّ العُبابا

    The enemies' planes cover the sky

    And their fleets cleave through the seas

  27. وهي في شاطئ التردُّد ترنو

    .بعيونٍ لا ترفَع الأَهدابا

    While it lingers on the shore of hesitation

    With eyes that do not lift their gaze

  28. حمل المعتدي إليها المناي

    والرزايا وسنَّ ظُفْراً ونابا

    The transgressor carried to it death

    And depravities, and bared a fang and claw

  29. رَجموها بكلِّ دعوى، فلمَّ

    خضعتْ، صدَّروا لها الإِرهابا

    They cast every claim at it, but it did not

    Submit, so they called it terrorism

  30. وهي تستعطف الذين رموه

    كرعاةٍ يستعطفون الذِّئابا

    And it tries to appeal to those who threw

    Stones at it, like shepherds appealing to wolves

  31. أيُّها السائل المعاتب، مهل

    فوجوه الأحداثِ تبدو غِضَابا

    O questioning, blaming one, wait

    For the faces of events seem angry

  32. لا تَلُمْني إذا رأيتَ القوافي

    لابساتٍ من الأسى أَثوابا

    Do not blame me if you see the rhymes

    Wearing garments of sorrow

  33. أين قومي؟ تلفَّتَ المجدُ يوم

    فرآهم يقدِّسون القِبَابا

    Where are my people? Glory looked one day

    And saw them sanctifying domes

  34. ورآهم يصافحون عدوَّ

    لم يزلْ يشرب الدِّماءَ شرابا

    And saw them greeting an enemy

    Who never stopped drinking blood as a drink

  35. لا تسلني عنهم، فَرُبَّ سؤالٍ

    حار في شأنه الحليمُ جوابا

    Do not ask me about them, for many questions

    Perplex even the forbearing to answer

  36. ما رمانا وراءَ ظهر المعالي

    غيرُ قومٍ يُطاردون السَّرابا

    Nothing cast us behind the glory

    Except a people chasing mirages

  37. قوَّضوا خيمة الإِباءِ، وباعو

    للأعادي الأَوتادَ والأَطنابا

    They demolished the tent of glory, and sold

    The pegs and ropes to the enemies

  38. آهِ يا أمَّةَ الإِباءِ رماني

    منكِ سَهْمٌ ما اهتزَّ حتى أَصابا

    Oh nation of glory, you cast me away

    An arrow that did not waver until it hit

  39. أنا يا أمتي أحبكِ حُبَّ

    لو تأمَّلْتِه، رأيتِ عُجابا

    Oh my nation, I love you a love

    If you contemplated, you would see it as wondrous

  40. كم سؤالٍ مُعاتبٍ فيكِ، لمَّ

    كشفت وجهَه الصَّبابةُ غابا

    How many questioning, blaming things in you

    That drifting sands have uncovered from me!

  41. آهِ يا أمتي، لديكِ كتابٌ

    فلماذا تخالفينَ الكتابا؟

    Oh my nation, you have a book

    So why do you oppose the book?

  42. ولماذا لا تَتْبَعين رسول

    مَلأَ الأرضَ حكمةً وصوابا؟

    And why do you not follow a messenger

    Who filled the earth with wisdom and rectitude?

  43. آهِ يا أمتي، لديكِ صيامٌ

    .وصلاةٌ تبدِّد الأَتعابا

    Oh my nation, you have fasting

    And prayers that dispel hardships

  44. منبع الطُّهْر في رحابِك يجري

    فلماذا لا تغسلين الثِّيابا؟!

    The spring of purity flows in your sanctity

    So why do you not wash the clothes?!

  45. أيُّها الشاعر الحزينُ، ترفَّقْ

    بقوافيكَ، لا تَزدْها اغترابا

    O saddened poet, be gentle

    With your rhymes, do not increase their estrangement

  46. كم صوابٍ في ظَنِّنا، لو رجعن

    للموازين، ما رأينا صَوابا

    How much rightness in our thinking, if we returned

    To the scales, we would not see rectitude

  47. لو نظرنا لحكمةِ الدَّفْنِ فين

    .ما ذَمَمْنَا من الطيور الغُرابا

    If we looked at the wisdom of burial

    We would not blame the crows

  48. عَلَّم الناسَ كيف تَحفر قبر

    وعلى لحده تُهِيلُ التُّرابا

    It taught people how to dig a grave

    And heap soil over its niche

  49. تُحْسِنُ الرَّكْضَ كلُّ خيلٍ، ولكنْ

    .لا تُباري المهجَّناتُ العِرابا

    Every horse runs well, but

    The crossbreeds do not race the purebreds

  50. أيها الشاعر المغرِّد، زِدْن

    من قوافيكَ ما يَعِزُّ خطابا

    O singing poet, increase for us

    Rhymes that honor speech

  51. في ضمير الدُّجى، إذا الليلُ أَرْخى

    سِتْرَه، وجِّه الدعاءَ احتسابا

    In the conscience of darkness, when night lets down

    Its veil, direct your prayer in acceptance

  52. مُدَّ كفَّاً إلى السماءِ، تَجدْه

    أخصبتْ من عطائِه إِخصابا

    Stretch out a palm to the sky, you will find it

    More fertile for its giving than germination

  53. ابتهلْ، يقتربْ إليكَ بعيدٌ

    لم تكنْ قبله تظنُّ اقترابا

    Pray, one far from you will draw near

    Whom before you did not think would approach

  54. سترى أنَّكَ الأَجَلُّ مكان

    .وترى أنَّك الأَعزُّ جنابا

    You will see that you are the most majestic place

    And you will see that you are the most honored refuge

  55. علِّمِ الكونَ كلَّه، أنَّ سَهْم

    من دعاءٍ يَصُدُّ عنكَ العذابا

    Teach the whole universe that an arrow

    Of prayer will ward off torment from you

  56. في سهامِ الدُّعاءِ، والليلُ دَاجٍ

    قُوَّة، تجعل التَّقيَّ مُهابا

    In the arrows of prayer, and the night is dark

    Strength, that makes the devout revered
