1. تشكو الفتاوى في زمانك حاله

    من بعدما سَلبَ الفضاء جمالِها

    The edicts complain in your time of their plight

    After space has robbed them of their beauty

  2. صارت مُبَلْبلة الفؤاد, أتشكتي

    علماءها, أم تشكتي جُهّالها ؟

    They have become troubled in spirit, did you complain

    About their scholars, or their ignorant ones?

  3. قابلتُها يوماً على درب الأسى

    تُلقي على باب الأنين رِحالها

    I met her one day on the path of sorrow

    Throwing herself on the door of sighing

  4. فسألتها عمّا جرى فاستعبرت

    ورمت إليّ مع الدموع سُؤالها

    So I asked her about what had happened, and she wept

    And tossed her question to me with tears

  5. قالت: أتسألني كأنّك لا ترى

    رمضاءَ بيداءِ الهوى ورمالها ؟

    She said: Do you ask as if you don't see

    The infertility of the land of passion and its sands?

  6. فأنا الفتاوى صِرتُ في أرجوحةٍ

    أبلت أيادي الراحلين حبالها

    So I, the edicts, have become on a swing

    Whose ropes the hands of the departed have worn out

  7. أولست تبصر في الفضائيات م

    يلقي عليّ من الهموم ثقالها

    Don't you see on satellite TV

    Those who heap worries upon me with their weight?

  8. يتسابقون على انتهاك كرامتي

    ويقلِّبون حرامها وحلالها

    Competing to violate my dignity

    And to flip my lawful and unlawful

  9. يتخّطفون القول من فم سائلٍ

    متجاهلين من الأمور مآلها

    Snatching words from the mouth of a questioner

    Disregarding the outcome of matters

  10. يتجرّأون على الفتاوى بعدم

    كسرت لهم أوهامهم أقفالها

    Daring to give edicts without

    Breaking open their delusions and shackles

  11. كم ليلةٍ قطعوا عليّ هُدوءه

    حتى أزاحوا نجمها وهلالها

    How many nights have they disturbed my calm

    Until they displaced its star and crescent moon?

  12. هذا يجوّز للفتاة سفوره

    ويُبيحُ أن تلقى النساء رِجالها

    This one permits a girl's debauchery

    And sanctions women meeting men

  13. ويبيحُ للأنثى الذكورة َ ناسي

    أن المهيمنَ حرَّم استرجالها

    And permits femininity for the female, forgetful

    That the All-Powerful has forbidden that masculinization

  14. وهناك من عشق الظهور فزاده

    رهقاً, وأعطى نفسه استرسالها

    And there is one who loved appearing, so it exhausted him

    And gave his soul free rein

  15. راقت له الشاشات حتى أصبحت

    في النفس غايته التي يسعى لها

    Satellite channels appealed to him until they became

    His goal that he strives for

  16. يا من تحمّلتم أمانة علمكم

    ما كلُّ من حَمَلَ السيوف أجالها

    O you who have undertaken the trust of your knowledge

    Not everyone who carried swords was up to it

  17. ما كلُّ من راش السّهام رمي به

    كم من سهامٍ لا تُحِبُّ نِصالها

    Not everyone who fluttered arrows shot them

    How many arrows do not like their arrowheads?

  18. إنّ التسرُّع في الفتاوى ثغرةٌ

    تتسلُّل الفتن العظام خلالها

    Hastiness in edicts is a gap

    Through which great tribulations infiltrate

  19. كان الصحابة يكبحون جماحه

    ويضّيقون طريقها ومجالها

    The Companions used to restrain their recklessness

    And narrow its path and scope

  20. يتدافعون سؤالها وجوابه

    ورعاً, ولا يستسهلون وبالها

    They used to vie over its question and answer

    Out of piety, not trivializing its affliction

  21. ما بالكم أنتم كسرتم بابه

    كسراً ولم تُبقوا عليها شالها ؟

    What has happened to you all, you broke its door

    Breaking it and leaving no veil over it

  22. ثوبوا إلى رُشدِ الحكيم وأطلقو

    تقوى النفوس وحطّموا أغلالها

    Return to the guidance of the Wise One, and unleash

    The piety of souls, and shatter their shackles

  23. يا مسرعون إلى الفتاوى, هوّنو

    فلربَّ فتوى أهلكت من قالها

    O hasteners to edicts, be gentle

    For perhaps an edict will destroy its utterer

  24. ولربَّ فتوى شكّكت متديَّن

    فيما لديه وأحدثت زلزالها

    And perhaps an edict will cause a devout one

    To doubt what he has, and shake him

  25. ما بالكم تنسون يوم قيامةٍ

    الله يعلم – وحده – أهوالها ؟؟

    What is with you that you forget a Day of Resurrection

    Whose terrors God alone knows?
