1. أبحرتُ فيك لأنّك البَحْرُ

    ونَهِلْتُ منك لأنّك النَّهْرُ

    I sailed in you for you are the sea,

    And I drank from you for you are the river.

  2. أرسلتُ طرفي في دُجَى ألمي

    فَرَنا إليكَ لأنّك البَدْرُ

    I sent my eyes in the darkness of my pain,

    So they looked to you for you are the full moon.

  3. أسقيتُ منك زُهور ذاكرتي

    فتألَّقَتْ، وتألَّق الزَّهْرُ

    I watered from you the flowers of my memory,

    So they shone, and the blossoms shone.

  4. وسألتُ عن فجري فبادَرَني

    منكَ الضياءُ، لأنّك الفَجْرُ

    And I asked about my dawn so

    The light rushed to me from you, for you are the dawn.

  5. وسألتُ عنك السُّحبَ فابتَسَمَتْ

    بَرْقاً، وقالتْ: إنّك القَطْرُ

    I asked the clouds about you so they smiled

    With lightning, and said: you are the rain.

  6. لمَّا جرى بكَ في يدي قلمي

    شَدَتِ الحروفُ، وغرَّدَ الحِبْرُ

    When you flowed through my pen

    The letters tightened, and the ink sang.

  7. يا ضَيْفَ كلِّ المسلمينَ إذ

    ما جِئْتَ جاءَ الأنسُ والبِشْرُ

    O guest of all Muslims when

    You came, intimacy and good news came.

  8. بك ترتقي النفس التي شَرُفَتْ

    بالصوم فيك، ويُشْرَحُ الصَّدرُ

    With you the soul rises honored

    By fasting in you, and the chest relaxes.

  9. يا ضيفَ كلِّ المسلمين، له

    في كلِّ قلبٍ مؤمنٍ، قَدْرُ

    O guest of all Muslims, for him

    In every believing heart, there is esteem.

  10. يقْوى الضعيفُ بما يشاهده

    من صائميكَ، فيُسْعِفُ الصَّبْرُ

    The weak grow stronger with what they see

    Of your fasters, so patience prevails.

  11. ويحسُّ فيك الأغنياءُ بم

    يشكو الجياعُ، ويصنع الفَقْرُ

    The wealthy feel during you what

    The hungry complain of, and poverty manufactures.

  12. فتكونَ أنتَ، دليلَ غافِلِهم

    نَحْوَ العطاءِ، فماله عُذْرُ

    You become, their guide to

    Generosity, so there is no excuse.

  13. يتواضع المتجبِّرونَ، إذ

    صاموك حقّاً، يَذْهبُ الكِبْرُ

    The arrogant humble themselves, when

    They truly fast you, pride disappears.

  14. يا ضيفَ أفئدةٍ بك ابتهجَتْ

    فتألَّق الإحساسُ والفِكْرُ

    O guest of hearts that rejoiced with you

    So feelings and thoughts shone.

  15. يا ضيفَ قلبي، أنتَ في لغتي

    سِرُّ البيانِ، وفي فمي ذِكرُ

    O guest of my heart, you are in my language

    The secret of eloquence, and rememberance in my mouth.

  16. تمتدُّ في قلبي وأوردتي

    لمّا تجيء، غُصونُكَ الخُضْرُ

    You extend in my heart and veins

    When you come, your green branches.

  17. ضيفٌ جميل الوجهِ طَلْعَتُه

    بدْرٌ يُضيء، وأنْجُمٌ زُهْرُ

    A guest beautiful of face whose rising

    Is a moon that illuminates, and stars blossom.

  18. «رمضانُ» أحْرُفُه محبّبَةٌ

    يهفو إليها النَّثْرُ، والشِّعْرُ

    “Ramadan” - its letters are beloved

    To which prose and poetry incline.

  19. لمَّا أُسِطّرها على ورقي

    تَزْهُو اليراعةُ، يُورق السَّطْرُ

    When I line them on my paper

    Delight blooms, the line flowers.

  20. شهرٌ إذا ما جاءَ رافقَه

    أمنُ القلوب، وغادَرَ الذُّعْرُ

    A month when it comes, accompanying it

    Is security of hearts, and fear departs.

  21. في صَوْمِهِ، وقيامه تَعَبٌ

    حُلْوٌ، به يتعاظم الأجْرُ

    In its fast, and its vigil a

    Sweet fatigue, with which reward magnifies.

  22. وخَلُوفُ أفواهِ العِبادِ إذ

    عَقَدوا الصِّيامَ، كأنه العِطْرُ

    And the silence of servants’ mouths when

    They upheld the fast, as if it were perfume.

  23. بالفرحتين يفوز صائمُه

    وهما «لقاءُ اللهِ» و»الفِطْرُ»

    The one who fasts it wins with two joys

    “Meeting God” and “breakfast”.

  24. الله متخصٌّ بمنحته

    للصائمين، وعنده الذُّخْرُ

    God is uniquely granting

    To the fasters, and with Him is abundance.

  25. «رمضانُ» اسمٌ باذخٌ شرف

    بجلاله يتحدَّثُ الدَّهْرُ

    “Ramadan” - a splendid name noble

    In its majesty the ages speak of.

  26. تكفيه ليلتُه التي شَرُفَتْ

    قَدْراً، تتيه بفضلهالعَشْرُ

    Its night suffices it, which was ennobled

    In value, by its virtue the ten shine.

  27. يعلو مقامُ الصائمينَ، إذ

    نُشِبَ الصِّراطُ، وأقبل الحَشْرُ

    The station of the fasters rises, when

    The path is set up, and the gathering approaches.

  28. بوَّابةُ «الريَّانِ» تَرْقُبُهم

    لله هذا العزُّ والفَخْرُ

    The gate of Rayyan awaits them

    For God - this honor and pride.

  29. يا ضيفَ أفئدةٍ معلَّقةٍ

    بالله، يُجْبَرُ عندها الكَسْرُ

    O guest of hanging hearts

    With God, with Him sorrow is mended.

  30. يا ضيفَ وجداني ومُؤْنِسَهُ

    يا مَنْ بسِرّكَ يَحْسُنُ الجَهْرُ

    O guest of my innermost and its companion

    O you whose secret improves clamor.

  31. تبقى الشهورُ على تألُّقِه

    تمضي، وأنتَ السَّيِّدُ الشَّهْرُ

    The months remain in its brilliance

    Passing, while you are the master month.
