أسمى البناءِ، بناءُ نفسٍ حُرَّةٍ

سلمتْ سرِيرَتُها منَ الأسْقامِ

The highest structure is a free soul

Whose conscience is safe from ills

وأعزُّ من مليونِ بُرْجٍ شاخِصٍ

أبراجُ همة عالمٍ وإمامِ

And dearer than a million towering castles

Are the bastions of a scholar's aspirations

وكذلِك النَّفْسُ الأبيَّةُ تُبْتَنى

بالعلمِ والإيمَانِ والإكْرامِ

Thus the dignified soul is built

With knowledge, faith and benevolence

إنَّي لأَسْمعُ كُلَّ شبْرٍ شَامخٍ

منْ أرْضِنا المرْفوعة الأعْلامِ

Verily, I hear every proud inch

Of our elevated land of flags

يُلقي بألفِ تحيَّةٍ وتحِيَّةٍ

ويقولُ لي قولَ الفتى المِقْدامِ

Greeting me a thousand times

With the words of a bold youth

للشَّمسِ أطْوارٌ، صباحٌ مُشرقٌ

وظهَيرةٌ، وغُرُوْبُها المُترامي

The sun has phases, a bright morning

Noon, and its far-reaching sunset

وتَظَلُّ شمسُ الحقِّ ذاتَ توهُجٍ

يرْتدُّ عنها جيشُ كلَّ ظلامِ

And the sun of truth remains radiant

Repelling the army of every darkness

كمْ ناطِقٍ ذَرِبَ اللّسانِ، وقَلْبُهُ

يَغْلي بجمْرٍ للضَّغينَةِ حامِ

How many speakers have faltered in tongue, while their hearts

Seethe with embers of rancor

قُل ما تَشاءُ عن الحياةِ وحُسْنها

وجمالِ ما فيْها مِنَ الأحْلامِ

Say what you will of life and its beauty

And the dreams that adorn it

فالأمرُ بالمعروفِ خَيرُ هديَّةٍ

لبيوتنا، تحمي مِنَ الآثامِ

For enjoining right is the best gift

Protecting our homes from sins

أرأيتَ ذا عقْلٍ يَرُدُّ هديْةً

منْ رحمةٍ ومودّةٍ وسَلامِ؟

Have you seen one of reason reject a gift

Of mercy, affection and peace?
