1. لحقَ الشيخُ بركبِ الصالحين

    فلماذا يا جراحي تنزفين؟

    The Sheikh has joined the company of the righteous

    So why, my wounds, do you bleed?

  2. ولماذا يا فؤادي تشتكي

    ولماذا يا دموعي تَذرفين؟

    And why, my heart, do you complain?

    And why, my tears, do you flow?

  3. رحل الشيخ عن الدنيا التي

    كلُّ ما فيها سوى الذِّكر لَعين

    The Sheikh has departed from this world

    Where everything except remembrance is an affliction

  4. فارقَ الدنيا، وما الدنيا سوى

    خيمةٍ مَنصوبةٍ للعابرين

    He left this world, and what is this world

    Except a tent erected for passersby

  5. فارقَ الدنيا التي تَفَنَى إلى

    منزلٍ رَحبٍ وجناتٍ، وَعِين

    He left this transient world for

    A vast abode and gardens, and springs

  6. ذاكَ ما نرجو، وهذا ظنُّن

    بالذي يغفر للمستغفرين

    That is what we hope for, and this is what we think

    Of Him who forgives those who seek forgiveness

  7. رحل الشيخُ على مِثلِ الضُّحَى

    من صلاحٍ وثباتٍ ويقين

    The Sheikh departed at the rise of dawn

    With righteousness, steadfastness, and certainty

  8. فلماذا أيُّها القلبُ أرى

    هذه اللَّوعَةَ تسري في الوَتين؟

    So why, O heart, do I see

    This agony flowing through my veins?

  9. ولماذا يا حروفَ الشعر عن

    سرِّ آلام فؤادي تكشفين

    And why, O words of poetry, do you reveal

    The secret of my heart's pain?

  10. أتركي الحسرةَ في موقعه

    تتغذَّى من أسى قلبي الحزين

    Leave the regret where it is

    Feeding on the sorrow of my sad heart

  11. وارحلي بي رحلةً مُوغلةً

    في حياةِ العُلماءِ الأكرمين

    And take me on a deep journey

    Into the lives of the most honorable scholars

  12. واسلُكي بي ذلكَ الدَّربَ الذي

    ظِلُّه يحمي وجوهَ السالكين

    And guide me on that path

    Whose shade protects the faces of its wayfarers

  13. يا حروفَ الشعر لا تَصطحبي

    لغةَ الشعر الى جُرحي الدَّفين

    O words of poetry, do not bring with you

    The language of poetry to my hidden wound

  14. ربماأحرقها الجرحُ، فم

    صار للشعر فَمٌ يَروي الحنين

    Perhaps the wound will burn it, and then

    Poetry will have a mouth that narrates yearning

  15. واتركي لوعةَ قلبي، إنَّه

    تارةً تقسو، وتاراتٍ تَلين

    Leave my heart's agony, for it

    Sometimes hardens, and sometimes softens

  16. وادخلي بي واحةَ العلم التي

    فُتحت أبوابُها للوافدين

    And bring me into the oasis of knowledge

    Whose gates are opened to newcomers

  17. عندها سوف نرى النَّبعَ الذي

    لم يزل يَشفي غَليلَ الظامئين

    There we will see the spring

    That has never stopped healing the thirsty

  18. شيخُنا ما كانَ إلاَّ عَلَم

    يتسامى بخشوع العابدين

    Our Sheikh was nothing but a towering flag

    Bowing with the devotion of worshippers

  19. عالمُ السنَّةِ والفقهِ الذي

    هَزَمَ اللهُ به المبتدعين

    The scholar of the Sunnah and jurisprudence

    Through whom God has defeated the innovators

  20. لا نزكّيه، ولكنَّا نرى

    صُوراً تُلحِقُه بالصادقين

    We do not sanctify him, but we see

    Images that join him with the truthful

  21. في خيوط الشمس ما يُغني، وإن

    أنكرتها نظراتُ الغافلين

    In the rays of the sun is that which avails, even if

    The glances of the heedless deny it

  22. راحلٌ ما غاب إلا جسمُه

    ولنا من علمه كنزٌ ثمين

    A traveler - only his body is gone

    And we have from his knowledge a precious treasure

  23. ما لقيناه على دَربِ الهوى

    بل على دَربِ الهُداةِ المهتدين

    We did not meet him on the path of desire

    But on the path of the guided leaders

  24. ل َكأني أُبصر الدنيا التي

    بذلت إغراءَها للناظرين

    It is as if I see the world

    Which displayed its allurements to onlookers

  25. أقبلت تَعرض من فتنته

    صوراً تَسبي عقول الغافلين

    Coming to tempt with its seductions

    Images that captivate the minds of the heedless

  26. رقصَت من حوله، لكنَّه

    لم تجد إلا سُموَّ الزَّاهدين

    It danced around him, but found

    Only the aloofness of ascetics

  27. أرسل الشيخُ إليها نَظرةً

    من عُزوف الراكعين الساجدين

    The Sheikh glanced at it

    With the detachment of bowing worshippers

  28. فمضت خائبةً خاسرةً

    تتحاشى نظراتِ الشَّامتين

    So it withdrew disappointed and defeated

    Avoiding the gazes of gloaters

  29. أخرجَ الدنيا من القلبِ، وفي

    كفِّه منها بلاغُ الراحلين

    He removed the world from his heart, and in

    His hand was its highest message to travelers

  30. لم يكن في عُزلةٍ عنها، ولم

    يُغلقِ البابَ عن المسترشدين

    He was not isolated from it, nor

    Did he close the door to those seeking guidance

  31. غيرَ أنَّ القلبَ لم يُشغَل به

    كان مشغولاً بربِّ العالمين

    But his heart was not preoccupied with it

    It was preoccupied with the Lord of the Worlds

  32. أوَ ما أعرض عنها قَبلَه

    سيِّدُ الخلقِ، إمامُ المرسلين

    Or did he not turn away from it before him

    The master of mankind, the Imam of Messengers?

  33. أيُّها الشيخُ، لقد علَّمتن

    كيف نرعى حُرمَةَ المستضعفين

    O Sheikh, you have taught us

    How to uphold the sanctity of the oppressed

  34. كيف نَستَشعِرُ من أمَّتن

    صرخة الثَّكلَى ودَمعَ الَّلاجئين

    How to feel the screams of our nation

    And the tears of refugees

  35. كيف نبني هِمَّةَ الجيل على

    منهج التقوى، ووعي الراشدين

    How to build the spirit of the generation upon

    The approach of piety and the consciousness of maturity

  36. كنتَ يا شيخ على علمٍ بم

    نالنا من غَفلةِ المنهزمين

    You knew, O Sheikh, what

    We have suffered from the heedlessness of the defeated

  37. قومُنا ساروا على درب الرَّدَى

    فغدوا ألعوبةَ المستعمرين

    Our people walked the path of misery

    And became playthings of the colonizers

  38. شرَّقوا حيناً وحيناً غرَّبو

    واستُبيحت أرضهم للغاصبين

    Once enlightened and once occidentalized

    Their land was ravaged by usurpers

  39. هجروا الصَّالحَ من أفكارهم

    فتلقَّتهم يدُ المستشرقين

    They abandoned the righteous from their thoughts

    And fell into the hands of the orientalists

  40. وارتموا في حضن أرباب الهوى

    من ذيول الغاصب المستعربين

    They collapsed in the laps of the people of desires

    From the tails of the usurping westernized

  41. ضيَّعوا الأقصى وظنُّوا أنَّهم

    سوف يحظون بِسِلمِ المعتدين

    They lost al-Aqsa and thought they would gain

    The peace of the transgressors

  42. فإذا بالفارس الطفل على

    هامة المجد ينادي الواهمين

    When suddenly the child knight

    At the summit of glory called on the deluded

  43. صاغها ملحمةً قُدسيَّةً

    ذكَّرتنا بشموخ الفاتحين

    He made it a Jerusalemite epic

    That reminded us of the pride of conquerors

  44. قالها الطفلُ، وقُلنا معه

    إنَّ بيعَ القدس بَيعُ الخاسرين

    The child said it and we said with him

    That selling Jerusalem is the sale of losers

  45. أيُّها الشيخُ الذي أهدى لن

    صُوَراً بيضاءَ من علمٍ ودين

    O Sheikh who guided us

    To the shining images of knowledge and faith

  46. لم تكن تغفل عن أمَّتن

    وضلالاتِ بَنيها العابثين

    You did not neglect our nation

    And the misguidance of its frivolous sons

  47. كنتَ تدعوها إلى درب الهُدَى

    وتناديها نداءَ المصلحين

    You called it to the path of guidance

    And summoned it with the call of reformers

  48. قلتَ للأمةِ، والبؤسُ على

    وجهها الباكي غبارٌ للأنين:

    You said to the nation, while misery is

    On its crying face like dust on lamentation:

  49. إنما تغسل هذا البوسَ عن

    وجهكِ الباكي، دموع التائبين

    Only the tears of the penitent

    Will wash this misery from your crying face

  50. أيها الشيخُ الذي ودَّعَن

    عاليَ الهمَّةِ وضَّاح الجبين

    O Sheikh who bid us farewell

    Lofty minded and bright of forehead

  51. نحن نلقاك وإن فارقتَن

    في علومٍ بقيت للرَّاغبين

    We will meet you even if you left us

    In knowledge that remained for the eager

  52. أنتَ كالشمسِ إذا ما غَربَت

    أهدتِ البَدرَ ضياءَ المُدلجين

    You are like the sun - when it sets

    It lends the full moon its radiance for the latecomers

  53. أنتَ ما ودَّعتَنا إلاَّ إلى

    حيث تُؤويكَ قلوبُ المسلمين

    You only bid us farewell to

    Where your heart will be harbored by Muslims

  54. إن بكيناكَ فإنّا لم نزل

    بقضاء الله فينا مُوقنين

    If we cry for you, we are still

    Resigned to the decree of God about us

  55. في وفاةِ المصطفى سَلوَى لن

    وعزاءٌ عن وفاةِ الصالحين

    Nothing consoles us for loved ones in

    The horror of loss except the death of the Trustworthy

  56. ذلك الرُّزءُ الذي اهتزَّ له

    عُمَرُ الفاروقُ ذو العقل الرزين

    That shock for which trembled

    The age of the Farouq, the discerning mind

  57. ماتَ خيرُ الناس، هذا خَبَرٌ

    ترك الناسَ حيارى تائهين

    The best of people died - this is news

    That left people confused and lost

  58. طاشت الألبابُ حتى سمعو

    ما تلا الصدِّيقُ من قولٍ مُبين

    Minds were distraught until they heard

    What the Truthful recited of clear words

  59. لا يعزِّينا عن الأحبابِ في

    شدَّةِ الهول سوى مَوتِ الأمين

    Nothing consoles us for loved ones at

    The height of horror except the death of the Trustworthy

  60. إنها الرُّوح التي تسمو بن

    ويظلُّ الجسم من ماءٍ وطين

    It is the soul that elevates us

    While the body remains of water and clay

  61. يحزن القلب ولكنَّا على

    حُزنه نَبني شموخ الصابرين

    The heart grieves but upon

    Its grief we build the pride of the patient

  62. كلُّنا نفنَى ويبقى ربُّن

    خالق الكون ملاذُ الخائفين

    We all perish while our Lord remains

    The Creator of the universe, refuge of the fearful
