1. وَهَجَ الحُبِّ لا تزدْني حَنين

    لا تزدْني فوق الأَنين أَنينا

    The passion blazed, do not increase my yearning

    Do not add more anguish to my anguish

  2. أنا مازِلْتُ أَسْتَدِرُّ القوافي

    وأُداري بهنَّ شوقاً دَفينا

    I still compose rhymes

    And with them I conceal profound longing

  3. لم أزل أستظلُّ بالصبر حتى

    لا تراني عَيْنُ الحياةِ حزينا

    I have remained shaded with patience until

    The eye of life does not see me sad

  4. لو رأى المعجبون بالشِّعر نار

    أنضجتْ فَنَّه لَمَا عَذَلُونا

    If those impressed with poetry saw the fire

    That cooked its art, they would not blame us

  5. إنَّما الشعر لوحةٌ، لوَّنَتْه

    يَدُ أحلامنا بما يُشجينا

    Poetry is but a painting, colored

    By the hand of our dreams with what excites us

  6. هو منّا، ونحنُ منه، ولكنْ

    هو يُصْلَى بنا، كما يُصلينا

    It is from us, and we are from it, but

    It prays for us, as we pray for it

  7. ومن الشعر ما يكون لهيب

    ومن الحبِّ ما يكون جنونا

    And some poetry can be a flame

    And some love can be madness

  8. وَهَجَ الحُبِّ لا تسلني فإني

    في زمانٍ يُثير فينا الظنونا

    The passion blazed, do not ask me, for I am

    In a time that arouses suspicions in us

  9. في زمانٍ تخطَّفَتْه الدَّعاوى

    وشكا من وسائل المرجفينا

    In a time that rumors snatched away

    And the alarmists' methods complained about us

  10. لا تسلْني عن لُجَّةِ البحر لَّم

    روَّع الموجُ في مَداهُ السَّفينا

    Do not ask me about the sea's turbulence when

    The waves frightened its vessels

  11. لا تسلني عن حالِ قومي فإن

    قد مشينا في البِيدِ حتى حَفِيْنا

    Do not ask me about my people's state, for

    We walked in the wilderness until we were lost

  12. ورأينا السراب يسخر مِنَّ

    ورأينا رَمْضاءَها تزدرينا

    And we saw the mirage mocking us

    And we saw its heat scorning us

  13. وَهَجَ الحُبِّ، لا تكرِّرْ سؤال

    يُشعل القلب، يستثير الشُّجونا

    The passion blazed, do not repeat a question

    That ignites the heart, and stirs up sorrows

  14. حينما تُبصر التخاذُلَ من

    فستدري بأيِّ سَهْمٍ رُمينا

    When you see defeatism from

    Those you will know which arrow hit us

  15. وستدري بأننا قَدْ تَعِبن

    وعَطِشْنا، والماءُ في أيدينا

    And you will know that we grew tired

    And thirsty, while the water was in our hands

  16. وبأنا إلى الخضوع جنحن

    ووقَفْنا، وضَعْفُنا يَعترينا

    And that we inclined to submission

    And stopped, and our weakness overcame us

  17. كلُّنا في مدائن الصَّمْت صرن

    بانكساراتنا نُدير الشُّؤونا

    We all in the cities of silence became

    Managing our affairs with our failures

  18. وضَعُفْنَا، وُلاةَ أمرٍ، وجَيْشَ

    وشعوباً، ودائناً وَمِدينَا

    Our weakness, rulers' strength, and an army

    And people, and creditors and debtors

  19. وَهَجَ الحُبِّ، لا تَسَلْ عن ضعيفٍ

    لا تَراه الأحداثُ إِلاَّ مَهينا

    The passion blazed, do not ask about a weak one

    Whom events see only humiliated

  20. يُكْرمُ الذُّلَّ بالخضوع، ويَبْقى

    بالمُروءات والإِباءِ ضَنينا

    He honors humiliation with submission, and remains

    With gallantry and dignity, sad

  21. ضَعْفُنا، قُوَّةُ العدوِّ، ولول

    ضَعْفُ قومي، ما حالَفوا التِّنِّينا

    Our weakness, the enemy's strength, and if not

    For my people's weakness, they would not befriend the monster

  22. وَهَجَ الحُبِّ، لا تَدَعْني وحيد

    حين أدعو مَنْ أَمرُهم يَعنينا

    The passion blazed, do not leave me alone

    When I call those whose matter concerns us

  23. رُبَّ صوتٍ، يزيل عنَّا غبار

    ويجلِّي أحلامَنا، ويُرينا:

    Many a voice, removes from us dust

    And clarifies our dreams, and shows us:

  24. يا وُلاةَ الأمور فينا، سلامُ

    يجعل القولَ بيننا موزونا

    O rulers over us, peace

    That makes speech between us proportioned

  25. فالسلام السليم من كلِّ زورٍ

    وادِّعاءٍ يؤمِّن الخائفينا

    For sincere peace, free of all fraud

    And pretension reassures the fearful

  26. سامحونا، إِذا نسجنا القوافي

    من شظايا آلامنا سامحونا

    Forgive us, if we wove rhymes

    From the fragments of our pain, forgive us

  27. صبرتْ أُمَّتي عليكم زمان

    فجميلٌ لو أنَّكم تصبرونا

    My nation has been patient with you for a time

    So it is good if you can be patient with us

  28. نحن والله، طيِّبون، لأنَّ

    لو شرحتم صدروكم، لنسينا

    We, by God, are good people, because

    If you opened your chests, we would forget

  29. اسمعوا ما نقول، فالحبُّ يَسري

    في شرايين قولنا، اسمعونا:

    Listen to what we say, for love flows

    In the veins of our words, listen to us:

  30. ما منعنا أرضَ القداساتِ ممَّن

    أَسْكنوا الرُّعْبَ غَزَّةً وجِنينا

    What prevented us from the land of sanctuaries from those

    Who inhabited fear in Gaza and Jenin

  31. ما حمينا أطفالَ حيفا وياف

    والثَّكالى مِنْ حولهم يَبْكينا

    What protected the children of Haifa and Jaffa

    While they cry around them

  32. ما سمعنا صوتَ المساجد تَدْعو

    أنْقِذُونا من قبل أنْ يَهْدمونا

    What heard the voice of mosques calling

    Save us before they demolish us

  33. كم رأينا قَتيلةً وقتيل

    ما منعنا مِنْ قتلهم شارُونا

    How many female and male martyrs did we see

    That Sharon prevented us from killing?

  34. كيف نحمي العراق أرضاً وشعب

    دونَ صَفٍ موحَّدٍ يحتوينا؟

    How can we protect Iraq, a land and people

    Without a united rank that contains us?

  35. كيف نَسطيع صدَّ ذاتِ قرونٍ

    زرعت رأَسَها العنيدَ قُرونا؟

    How can we repel one with millennia

    Who planted its stubborn head for ages?

  36. كيف نلقى العِدَى برأيٍ هزيلٍ

    ودروبٍ تَحيِّر السالكينا؟

    How can we meet hostility with a feeble opinion

    And paths that confuse the passersby?

  37. اسمعونا فنحن نحمل حُبَّ

    لو فقدناه، لم نكنْ ناصحينا

    Listen to us for we carry a love

    If we lost it, we would not be advising

  38. لم تكونوا كما يُحبُّ التآخي

    كان جسمُ الخلافِ جسماً بَدينَا

    You were not as brotherly love would love

    The body of disagreement was an obese body

  39. بين شرقٍ وبين غربٍ مكثتم

    تَتْبَعُون العَنْقَاءَ والحَيْزُبَونَا

    Between East and West you lingered

    Following the giraffe and the hyena

  40. إنْ نسيتم بعضَ الذي كان منكم

    فاسألوا حالَ أمتي واسألونا

    If you forgot some of what was from you

    Then ask about my nation’s state and ask us

  41. يا وُلاةَ الأمورِ، إنَّا عرفن

    ما عرفتم، فكلُّنا عارِفُونا

    O rulers, we knew

    What you knew, so we all know

  42. أَوَ لَسْنا أهلاً نرى ما تَوارى

    عن سوانا، ونعرف الأَقربينا؟

    Or are we not worthy to see what was hidden

    From our peers, and know the relatives?

  43. بعضُنا، باعَ نفسَه للأعادي

    وجَفَا حينَ باعَها المسلمينا

    Some of us, sold himself to the enemies

    And was aloof when they sold the Muslims

  44. أبعدَ المُصلحين عنه وأَدْنَى

    كلَّ غاوٍ، وقرَّب الملحدينا

    He dismissed the reformers from him and drew near

    Every deviant, and brought near the atheists

  45. مدَّ كفَّيه للضلال، وأَغْضَى

    طَرْفَ أخلاقه، وأَرْخَى الجبينا

    He extended his hands to misguidance, and turned away

    The edge of his manners, and softened his forehead

  46. وعصى ربَّه جهاراً نَهار

    وتمادَى مكابراَ مُستهينا

    And disobeyed his Lord openly by day

    And persisted arrogantly disregarding

  47. وتجافى عن الكتاب، وأَلْغَى

    بعضَ آياته، وغَشَّ المُتونا

    And shunned the Book, and abolished

    Some of its verses, and distorted the texts

  48. صاغ من جهله كتاباً تراءَى

    فيه إِبليسُ صاحباً وقَرينا

    He coined from his ignorance a book he purported

    To see in it Iblis as a companion and friend

  49. يَقْذِفُ الوَهْمَ للعقول، وَيُلْقي

    رَحْلَه عند وَهْمِه مُستكينا

    It casts illusion into minds, and tosses

    Its saddlebag by its illusion destitute

  50. ظلَّ يَهذي عن التقدُّم جيل

    بعد جيلٍ، ويدَّعيه سنينا

    He remained raving about progress for a

    Generation after generation, and claiming it for years

  51. وانجلتْ ساحةُ الخداعِ لتُبدي

    لضحايا الأَوهام ذئباً خَؤُونا

    And the field of deception shone to show

    To the victims of illusions a treacherous wolf

  52. قد عرفنا معنى التقدُّم لمَّ

    جاءَ بالحقِّ سيِّدُ المُرسلينا

    We knew the meaning of progress when

    The Master of Messengers came with the truth

  53. عندنا راية العقيدةِ، فيه

    كلماتٌ تزيدُنا تمكينا

    We have the banner of doctrine, in which

    Are words that increase our enablement

  54. إنَّها الشمس تنشُر النورَ حتى

    يعجزَ الوَهْمُ أنْ يَغٌشَّ العيونا

    It is the sun spreading light until

    Illusion despairs of deceiving the eyes

  55. ليس مَنْ يجعل الشريعةَ نَهْج

    كالذي يجعل القوانينَ دينا

    Not like one who makes Islamic Law a path

    Is one who makes man-made laws as religion

  56. ما جَهِلْنا قَدْرَ الرِّجال، فإن

    قد عرفنا أَصيلَهم والهَجينا

    We have not been ignorant of the merit of men, for

    We have known their genuine ones and the impure

  57. يا أولاةَ الأَمْرِ اسمعونا، فإنَّ

    ما جَهلناكمو، ولم تَجْهَلُونا

    O rulers, listen to us, for we

    Have not been ignorant of you, and you have not ignored us

  58. لو رفعنا معاً شعارَ هُدان

    لجعلنا حَبْلَ التَّآخي متينا

    If together we raised the banner of guidance

    We would make the rope of solidarity sturdy

  59. قد رأيتم كما رأينا جميع

    خُلْفَ أعدائنا بما وعدونا

    You have seen as we saw altogether

    The failure of our enemies in what they promised us

  60. ورأيتم كيف امتطوا كلَّ ظهرٍ

    غيرَ ظَهْرِ الوفاء، مستأسدينا

    And you saw how they rode every back

    Other than the back of loyalty, acting like lions

  61. ورأيتم كيف استداروا علين

    بقلوبٍ تأبى لنا أنْ تَلينا

    And you saw how they turned against us

    With hearts that refuse to soften for us

  62. جرَّدونا من الدُّروع، فلمَّ

    جرَّدونا، بسهمهم صوَّبونا

    They stripped us of shields, so when

    They stripped us, with their arrow they aimed at us

  63. كلُّ ما كانَ من دعاوى تَهاوى

    وتلاشى ما كان يستهوينا

    All that was of empty claims collapsed

    And what used to allure us vanished

  64. ووقفنا معاً أَمام الأعادي

    وبنيرانهم جميعاً صُلينا

    And we stood together before the enemies

    And by their fires we all were roasted

  65. خندق واحدٌ كبيرٌ، وقفن

    فيه، نرجو الخلاصَ ممَّآ ابتُلينا

    One great trench, we stood

    In it, hoping for salvation from what we were tested with

  66. نحن كُنَّا، وما نزالُ، ولكنْ

    غايةُ المعتدين ألاَّ نكونا

    We were, and still are, but the

    Goal of the transgressors is that we not be

  67. يا وُلاةَ الأمور، هيَّا أقيمو

    من صَفاءِ القلوبِ حصناً حصينا

    O rulers, come, establish

    From the purity of hearts an impregnable fortress

  68. ارفعوا رايةَ العقيدةِ حتى

    تُبصروا الفجر ضاحكاً مُستبينا

    Raise the banner of doctrine until

    You see the dawn laughing unambiguous

  69. حينما تُصبح الحقائقُ شمس

    يشهد الفجرُ صحوةَ النَّآئمينا

    When truths become a sun

    Dawn testifies to the awakening of the sleepers

  70. لن تروا أَلْفَ خُطبةٍ وبيانٍ

    دونَ فعلٍ، تَنيلُ ما تَطلبونا

    You will not see a thousand speeches and statements

    Without action, attaining what you wish from us

  71. هذه الأمة العظيمةُ عاشت

    بخلافاتنا، أَسىً وفتونا

    This great nation lived

    With our disputes, misery and discord

  72. فامنحوها بعد التخاذُل عزم

    لترى فيكم القويَّ الأمينا

    So grant it after defeat, resolve

    To see in you the strong, the trustworthy

  73. أمتي حينما تمدُّ يديه

    نحونا لا تريد إلاَّ اليقينا

    My nation, when it extends

    Its hands toward us, wants only certainty

  74. غايةُ الأمر عنَدها، وهي تدعو

    أنْ ترانا أمجادُها صامدينا

    For it, the matter's end, while calling

    Is to see us as its towering glories

  75. هي تَشْتاق أنْ ترى الصدقَ من

    مُشْرقَاً كالضُّحى النَّقيِّ مُبينا

    It yearns to see sincerity from

    A shining sunrise, clear, unambiguous

  76. أمتي شيَّدتْ قِلاعاً وترجو

    أنْ نُداري عنها العِدَى ونَصونا

    My nation built fortresses and hopes

    That we will ward off hostility from it and protect it

  77. يا قِلاعَ الأَمجادِ، إنَّا شُغِلْن

    بخلافات قومنا فاعْذرينا

    O fortresses of glories, we have been

    Preoccupied with our people’s disputes, forgive us

  78. واطمئنِّي، فإنَّنا سوف نأتي

    بقلوب تأبى لنا أنْ نَهُونا

    And be reassured, for we will come

    With hearts that refuse for us to be submissive

  79. بين قومي وبين دَرْبِ المعالي

    خَيْطُ وَهْمٍ، لو جاوَزوه كُفينَا

    Between my people and the path to glory

    A thread of illusion, if they pass it, we would suffice

  80. يا قِلاعَ الأمجادِ، بٌشْراكِ، إنَّ

    قد مَدَدْنا إلى الصَّباحِ اليَمينا

    O fortresses of glories, receive good tidings, for

    We have extended our hands to the morning

  81. إِنَّها رَجْعَةٌ إِلى اللّه تمحو

    عارَ قومي، وتْرْشِدُ التَّائهينا

    It is a return to God that erases

    The shame of my people, and guides the lost
